Rigging Rope suggestions

So are rigging ropes like opinions or is there a clear winner?

I have a 1/2 16 strand & some 3/8 husky braid, both break about 5,000lbs. I don't usually drop bigger stuff but occasionally I do so I was thinking I might want a rope that was more in the 9-11,000lbs range. Is there a best option or is it really just personal choice. All blocks, rings, with a bollard of some style. Thanks

Yales Double Esterlon is a nice option too. Husky and Polydyne have dynamic nylon cores whereas Stable Braid and Double Esterlon are all polyester costruction (more static, great for lifting and pulling, and speedlines).

I use dbl braid dyneema for lift, pull and lower because it's strong with very lil stretch. Wtcha pull is watcha pull
16 strand dbl braid for upto 200lbs dynamic loading
Retired life lines for light rigging

I've always liked Samson Ropes, but I recently purchased some 14mm Sirius and I've been converted. I use the RE Omni Block 2.6, and my workload and amount of cuts has gotten increasingly larger and fewer respectfully. I sort of fell into it after reading Steve Conallys'( I know I spelled his last name wrong) posts and experiences. They actually go hand in hand. Sirius 14mm=2.6 Omni Block

If I understand correctly, you're asking about ropes that will only run over metal, so double braids. The only real variation is nylon or polyester core. Unless I'm lifting or stubbing off something 1000+lbs, I can't really tell the difference. I think the skill of the rigger is more important. They will all milk and get all twisted/hockled until broken in, just milk early and often. I have used sta-set, sirus, husky, double esterlon, stable braid, nystron, polydyne, and Atlas, and I like them all. I really like the way 5/8 feels in my hand, and it's more than twice as strong as a half inch solid braid.

Natural crotch is a different story.

You're absolutely right the skill set of the rigger far exceeds the rigging technique and materials, but I'm a 1 man operation. So I setup and operate my own rigging, and it's easier for me to set my gear within swinging distance of my work area. I'm just more comfortable with the Sirius/2.6 Omni/Med Buckingham Porta Wrap, than other systems I've tried over the past 12+yrs. IMO.

Honestly, from what I've read about Monkeylove's little part-time gig, that 14mm sirus (or atlas) and the big omni would be a perfect setup for him, too. If he needs more than that twice a year, he can borrow something from me.

The setup handles 75-85% of the Maples and Elms, and on most occasions a good sized Oaks that I am contracted to dismantle. Here in So. Central WI. If need be I can call a friend or 2, to assist on a weekend.
