He had a lightning struck conifer split below him and take him down with it. That lesson, know when to say no and wrap those trees if you need to climb them.

[/ QUOTE ]

He side loaded the tree and had 5 wraps on the lowering line..

[/ QUOTE ]

Where do you get your info. Not sure how many hands your info went through but if you don't have accurate facts its best not to start rumors.

Agreed x2

Respectfully:
What are the accurate facts?
So far in this thread we have had at least two differing opinions on the actual accident and one guy saying he knows but won't talk about it!?!
This must be the most well known accident in the industry and yet it is full of misinformation and speculation, because the people who do know aren't talking.
I said it earlier in this thread and I'll say it again: If there are important lessons learned from that tragedy - lessons that could save lives - it is irresponsible to keep it within a select few.

I have never met Jeff.C in person but I will have to say that from what the dude posts up he seems like a top notch treeman and person. What ya see is what ya get sort of dude. No pretences there which I think speaks volumes, so I 2nd what Ted says. As men settling petty differences shows backbone, just saying.

I agree...I have always wondered why it seems to be such a secret what the facts are for that accident. Folks allude to having the true knowledge but will not share it.

"Peter S. Donzelli" is a perfect example. RIP

I guarantee you're not intimate enough with this accident to assess it's pertinence as an example in any comparison. My level of intimacy with those in direct loss is fairly high and I refuse to flaunt assessment of the accident - out of repsect. I think it may be fair to ask the same from yourself.

Hey Mangoes, take a pill.

From the best of my recollection of what I've been told at training courses, there was a miscommunication between Peter and his ground crew when he was making a topping cut. He may have been natural crotch rigging, and the ground crew may have used too many wraps around the trunk of the tree, shockloading the compromised spar causing failure.

As for Daniel...

Just wear the PPE when you post your revolutionary techniques so no one has anything to bitch about. Other than your ego, which I'm sure is not a unique characteristic among tree folk.

And pay your dues if you want to advertise as ISA CA, I do, and it is a disrespect to those of us who spend our time and money less on hair product and more on improving our credentials.

It sounds like Pete's death is a bad example for instructors to keep using. It was a breif moment of silence almost when we were told the story in class. The instructor was having trouble setting up some visual equipment after starting the story when I started making shadow animals on the screen. Well it got a bit uncomfortable but I'm used to that as you can imagine. I still fear lightning trees because of that. The story made lightning trees sound like a mysterious monster, totally unpredictable, some accurate facts would of helped. They don't need to be feared they need to be worked.

Imagine that... does she know about the time you called me up all drunk, and threatened to knock my teeth out, asked if I knew a good dentist "cause I was going to need one" etc... Maybe you don't even remember that yourself, you were so hammered, slurring your words, barely understandable, all pissed cause I called you a drunk.... LOL

You spew slanderous meaningless insults, with no basis in reality, like some kid trash talking on the playground. Hope you can take it as well as you give it, cause at least everything I say is true. I haven't had a sip of beer since '91, over 20 year sober. When was the last time you went a week without?

Truth hurt? you got a problem with it? give me a call!

Lol, you're such a tough guy. I'll wager that you were a fatty as a kid, and got bullied a lot.

For the record, I don't care if you are currently a certified arborist, except that you are advertising it on your website (which also calls you a leader of the industry, lol).

Today I will call the ISA and ask them to investigate your claims of being a certified arborist. I heard they send out cute cease and desist notices to clowns like you.
