Re: OTCC sign up forms

This is the last day for climbers to sign up for the Ohio Chapter TCC being held on June 2nd and Holden Arboretum. If you have been waiting till the last second to sign up....well..its that time.

Re: OTCC sign up forms

Hey Rich, how many climbers signed up?

Any women competing?

Did I make the cut as a judge?

I can't believe this TCC is only a few weeks away...wait, only 19 days away, and nobody is posting about how excited they are, either to compete, or to eat tons of sushi with Rich H. I am most excited about the latter, but also looking forward to helping out and watching some great climbing!

Arborists that don't judge or tech have NO CLUE what's involved with setting up and making a comp happen. The TCC chair has to make dozens of phone calls to; secure a site; get enough volunteers to prune the trees (bucket truck, chip truck & chipper, etc.), set up the events, judges, techs, scoring team with laptops, power to run the laptops, prizes for the winners, dismantle the events, etc. I am the Illinois TCC Chair and it's getting harder and harder to get quality judges and volunteers. We set the limit at 30 contestants and that takes us from 5:30 AM til 7PM to complete on the comp day. Having more than 30 contestants would run into a 2 day event. That means the TCC Chair would have to make even more phone calls. Please have a little compassion for the wonderful arborists that make these events happen. It takes an unbelievable amount of time and commitment. GET INVOLVED.

Norm - Kudos man! This takes huge amounts of efforts. All Chapters feel the strain every year. Folks like Rich & Norm go way above and beyond. THANK YOU for your dedication guys.

Again... help by getting involved !

Stephan,

You are in the final round for deciding judges...it is all going to boil down to how much Uni you can eat in 2 minutes. I think your challenger is a guy named Kobayashi or something like that...

For the out of state judges and techs coming in for this comp please bring a sleeping bag and/or pillow. I have secured a second house for everyone to flop at so we shouldn't have too much problem with room for everyone. Oh yeah, bring ear plugs too....that Scotty can snore like no one else I know...well except for TreeRat. Norm, Dan Mekkes, and several other judges will be housed directly at Holden, unless they would rather grab a room with the other climbers.

Judges packets are being sent out today along with the menu from the Japanese restaurant we plan to close down after the event.

We really look forward to seeing everyone and want to thank everyone in advance for taking the time to help out with our event. Unfortunately our 5 female competitors that we had scheduled to climb have all had to reconsider. Toni dislocated her knee (she is OK but in pain), Jen can't commit due to her job, and several others just don't feel ready. I absolutely respect the decisions of our women and look forward to hopefully seeing them all at future comps.

If there are any questions, comments, or other regarding this comp please feel free to contact me at anytime.

Oh yeah, I think we are closing in on 30 competitors so far with many new faces among the climbers. We will definitely fill the slate with in state climbers so unfortunately will not be taking on any out of staters. On the judging side, however, we have representatives from: Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Florida, North Carolina, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Missouri. I can't thank everyone enough for their willingness to travel to help us out. I can assure your chapters that you will all be repaid in kind.

Thanks Treebeach! Any chance you can make it to IL on August 25th? We'll talk in Honolulu.

I am looking for a ride down from michigan. Rich is there any spots left for teching? I wouldnt mind hanging out in a tree or something.

I've been away for a couple days and back home from work in the big city and I am getting excited for the competition. Treebing you might try to get a hold of sirtreerat. I am more than happy to help you guys out and sounds like an awesome group and Rich's willingness to help out others has come to show that we're a community and you get involved and help others and they'll do likewise. Looking forward to meeting everyone and having a good time and making it a good competition.

I think it would be cool if we could make sure we take a picture of all the treebuzzers in attendance at this TCC. We tried to get it going in Charlotte, but missed out on more than a few buzzers because we were unorganized.

ONLY TWO MORE WEEKS!!!!

Set up is on Friday, June 1st ..rain or shine...
Anyone interested in helping with the set up is most welcome to head out for it. I can certainly use as many experienced course setters as possible. Anyone coming up who needs a place to stay please let me know.

I can't wait to see everyone up here. Please travel safe and start thinking about your sushi orders. I already gave the restaurant a heads up that we plan to invade, so hopefully we won't devour everything in the place.

Hey Kevin, I absolutely have a spot for you. Let me know when you are coming into town and if you need a place to stay. My three Bassets are dying to meet your dog and take a ride in that sled !!!

Re: OTCC sign up forms

EasyP,

Alas, I shall not make it to the comp. The wife has informed me that I have a wedding to go to. I have sent my program to Rich and he says it looks OK. I just hope that he or whom ever can run it with no issues, and has good runners.

Best of luck to all that are Competing, Judging and teching.

Most of all, Best of luck to all that try to keep up with Rich in the sushi eating comp.

Actually my exact words were...."That is the absolute most BAD A** scoring program I have ever seen."

We are really going to miss you up here Vince. Our Chapter is hugely in your debt for allowing us to use your program. The next time we hook up the fish is on me.

Re: OTCC sign up forms

I am just sick about this....

Since when was a wedding more important than a TCC?

Just kidding, but I am sad to hear you can't make it, Vince.

I'll be sure to take pictures of all of the groups of competitors and judges for you.

I will also eat your share of the sushi. (literally. I am not joking about this, Rich. I am going to try to eat 1/4 of my body weight in raw fish.)
