Petzl Midline Zigzag

The make-or-break part seems to be whether midline attachment actually saves time without adding a pile of extra pieces and restrictions. If it still needs a separate Chicane for SRT and gets very picky about rope diameter or user weight, a lot of the convenience disappears. After the Reflex discussion, Petzl will probably need to be very clear about the combinations they approve. A clean midline install that still feels like a normal Zigzag would be interesting. A device that only behaves well on one narrow rope/setup combination would be a much harder sell.
 
There's a new teaser short vid on youtube which I can't cleanly link. Shows the device articulating. Appears to have even more chain links than the zigzag.

Never heard of any recall about the thumb lever in 2021...only recall they had was about the swivel back in 2014 which is why you see the first versions look different after that
 
And id bet on petzl nailing this more than any other company bc they always handled their recalls well and its the same device they been making forever now.
Love ISC but they clearly tucked up their quickie and clearly rushed their zz to the market abd still wont recall it.
Petzl is like top tier period.. I expect this to be awesome...the only claim that is bold is when they say you dont need the Chicane for single rope....there are just so many variables and it looks like the same amount of links they always had.
No matter what, your zz will always slip first on single rope...doesn't mean its trash but you can make them slip or bleed in single rope Configuration one day in one set of weather and weight then the next day it wont....thats where it gets tricky

They also had links that were cracking at the riveted pivot points

Evo, I recall the link crack where the preload spring hole weakened the sideplate, but not general link failure/cracking. Any refs? I'm curious.

Last recall was for the thumb levers and included the zillion, which I’m sure we’ll see a midline version of now maybe?

Is a midline attachable lanyard adjuster really as helpful as main line friction device? I cannot think of a time I thought "gosh, I wish I could just take the Positioner off" (except when switching to a new lanyard maybe once a year)

Not really as helpful imo. With my rope lanyards I run a hitch climber system and do swap it around a bit. Nothing like climbing line though. I still use a old petzl micro grab and that basically lives in place for the life of the lanyard unless I need to steal the grab for a different application
 
Evo, look at the shadow in the red circle in the photo - that's the spring anchor hole I mentioned on the one particular link.
 
only 5 links plus a rope pinch on the Reflex was what I considered a "bold" design choice in my first impression comment. Zigzag went up from 6 to 8 on the shift. There's a lesson in there. Power of compound, lessening individual component performance reliance.
