Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

What degree do they call hot there right now?

It's 95 outside my window here in Charlotte.

The little lady and I will be leaving tomorrow morning EARLY, hopefully get up to Cleveland in time to check out the site before the judges meeting.

I am officially checked out of work, and looking forward to seeing everybody up there! I can be identified by my red Petzl helmet with a Heartwood sticker.

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

I am almost all packed up and hopefully tomorrow morning all I will need to do is make a pot of coffee and take off.

I was reviewing the route in my atlas and saw that I am traveling through the towns of Canton and Akron, towns who, according to my late father, are populated by "dog people" (Cleveland Browns Fans). His words of advice still ring clearly today: "Don't open the windows, and lock the doors"

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

Travel safely Stephan and Tyler we are super excited to have you guys out. Sorry to hear about the GF there Tyler, nothing a good climb and some sashimi hotate won't fix.

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

OK. I have seen the venue. I have seen the light.

I just have to get some sleep so that I am on top of my game tomorrow.

For those of you that have never heard of Holden Arboretum, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Morice, Urban Legend, Altreeist, I'm thinking about you guys and how much you guys would love this site.

The competitors look pretty fired up, too.

I will post again tomorrow, probably when I wake up, to tell you all how I slept on this king size bed at the Hilton.

If there is one thing I expect from the Hilton name, it is class.

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

5 Minutes to 6am, and I am about to walk out the door.

Just in case Tree Rat was wondering, yes, the bed at the Hilton is probably more comfortable than the Days Inn.

HERE WE GO!!!!!! JUNE 2ND!!!!

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

Oh snap.

What a TCC! Rich H. assembled an all-star crew to help run the events, and the Holden Arboretum supplied the scenery.

It was like heaven for a tree person!

I am off to the restaurant for sushi!

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

I'm not sure about last names,

But it was Jay Butcher (past OH champ),

Chris Bramblane (I think I am wrong on that last name)

Michael McCool,

and a really nice guy named Jose, but I can't remember his last name.

The masters tree was truly a monster, a Northern Red Oak.

Chris Bramblane won overall and will be representing OH in Hawaii.

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

Jose Fernandez was the other in the master's challenge. And I have to totally agree. The crew for this was just amazing. It was so awesome getting to meet everyone and everything just ran so smoothly. It was a blast. I agree it was like heaven for tree guys well almost..... the zipline would've completed the experience but we won't go there. So many good guys came out had a good time a lot of good competitors a lot of comradery and you couldn't ask for a better crew. I think other than being stressed about the sushi menu with that type of experience and crew Rich just went with the flow.

Comments from a very new guy:
This was a truely outstanding event!
Rich's organization, personnel skills, attention to schedule, execution & detail were amazing! Even when he was trying to be "tough" he was still the "Smiley Happy Bald Guy".
Many thanks to Roger, Cory, Stephan, & Curt!
I learned a LOT!!!

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

Just got home, What A BLAST!!!!! The best TCC I've gone to yet. It was great to meet & see everyone, this was an all-star cast. Thanks for all the fun everyone, keep in touch.

GOOD LUCK, CHRIS
You had a awesome master climb.

Thank you Rich H, you the MAN.

P.S.
Any "bad" pictures or videos about me, have been doctored or photo shopped, and should NOT be believed.

All the good ones of course they're true, why wouldn't they be?

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

Paul now those of us that got to partake in this all star cast know what is true and what isn't and those who have lurked around here know that ALL will be true. Plus I am gonna have to break down and get me a sir tree rat shirt and stien.

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

Ok, here goes the first round of pictures. Keep in mind that most of the photos that show Sir Tree Rat have been doctored, so take into account the hideousness you are witnessing is just the magic of photoshop.

I finally got to meet PU Climber. Funny, I thought that "PU" stood for "Politically Un-Correct"

All in all, I have to say that this TCC was one of the best, no, was the best one I have ever participated in, and I can feel the "super crew" coming together for future TCCs.

Love to all, and to all a good night!

SZ

PS- I didn't get any speeding tickets on the way home!

Re: OTCC Gear Check Clarifications

I have to agree this was a awesome weekend. I'll get that ticket photo for you Mon. SZ, and the rest of them up also'
Rich you did a GREAT job be proud my friend.
Glad everyone made it home OK.
Be safe be happy Scotty

OK then this is going to take some time so for those who don't have 10 minutes to read this I suggest you skip the terms "thank you" and "good god I love you guys" as well as "what a beautiful site" and "quite possibly the best weekend ever" and just go with the wise words of ScottyFL:

"I plan to live a whole month this weekend".....that we did my friend, no doubt about that.

I will never be able to come up with the words to thank all of you who made the trip out this weekend to help out with our TCC. We had many troubles with getting it off the ground most notably the cancellation of our planned seminar with Mark, Melissa, and Tod. I can spend the next 5 years apologizing and it will never express how sorry I am for not being able to follow through on this seminar. Your willingness to work with our Chapter and your desire to share your knowledge with our climbers will never be forgotten and I can assure you that I will do everything I can to make sure our Chapter does not embarrass itself again in this regard. We owe you a huge apology and I hope some day we can repay you for your work on our behalf.

The event staff, members, and crew at The Holden Arboretum deserve the utmost praise for allowing us the use of their beautiful facilities and for all of their hard work and help in pulling this off. The cooperation we received from Holden was unprecedented and thoroughly appreciated. We look forward to the possibility of working together with everyone there again in the near future. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!!

Tommy Williams as event chair pulled together a phenomenal crew and kept the train on track no matter how many potholes we encountered. Lana Ahlum, Lola Lewis, and Chris Andrews at Ohio ISA made sure that every detail was seen to and because of that nothing was left to chance. Excellent job to everyone and thank you for your help and coopertion. THANK YOU !!!

*****WARNING, EXTREME EMOTION ABOUT TO BE DISPLAYED*******
****THOSE WITH WEAK STOMACHS MAY WISH TO AVOID THE FOLLOWING*****

To say that we had the finest crew ever assembled for a TCC may get me in big trouble with Scott and Rip at ISA, as well as with Stephan and Vince at CAA, but we had without a doubt THE ABSOLUTE FINEST, MOST DEDICATED CREW OF ALL TIME at this competition. I personally want to thank each and everyone of the following amazing friends for their volunteered time and work this weekend (in no particular order):

Norm Hall
Scotty Olson
Jimmy Pritcherd
Jason Diehl
Chris O'Brian
Cory Petry
Roger Martin
Paul Mautz
Paul Michaels
Kristian Schultz
Tyler Roehler
Rick D'Enbeau
Jeremy (Zipline)
Mike Fasig
Dave Ahlum
Jeff Jackson
Dan Leimeister
Mike Speyer
Jack Butcher
Dan Mekkes
Courtney Kilgore
Greg Manning
Kevin Bingham
Stephan Zimmerman
Kurt Magnello

If I forgot anyone I am incredibly sorry, my memory may suck but I still thank you.

The professionalism displayed by this assembled crew was absolutely incredible to see. We had no problems whatsoever with any event and had the full prelims done by 12:30 which is an all time record for the Ohio Chapter.
*********************************************************

One of the biggest reasons for the success of this comp and the speed at which everything was taken care of is due to one man: Mr. Vince Condin. Vince allowed our Chapter the use of his flat out freaking amazing scoring program which
completely cured one of the biggest problems our chapter has ever had with the TCC's. Vince, all I can say man is

THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU.....oh yeah, did I mention THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!

If ISA does not pick up on this scoring program they have no one to blame but themselves. This program ROCKED!!!!!

*********************************************************

Next in line for some loving are the incredible competitors that took part in this competition. I have never seen a comp where the groups where not only asked to stick together, but they did so willingly. The comradery and affection amongst the climbers is what keeps all of us coming back for more every year. CONGRATS TO ALL OF THE COMPETITORS AND CONGRATS ON ONE HECK OF A GREAT DAY OF CLIMBING!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure I am going to be gushing love for many posts after this one, but for now I just want to say

THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to everyone for the incredible weekend of fun. Toni and I were thrilled to see everyone and can't wait to do this all again very soon. Thanks again.
