Mini Skids

How do you like that winch? Is it hard to run out a lot of cable? Is it slow? I really like the idea and the placement of the winch on the grapple. I might steel the idea.

It works, and was cheap...that about the best I can say about it lol. I just put it on this morning, then my wife and I went out to debrush 2 large Tulip poplars (just bombed the limbs). I then used the winch to pull over the logs, 3' dbh by 50' long.

It worked well, better control than just backing up the mini. The winch is kinda flaky though, the free spool nob kept coming off when pulling out the cable. But I think I paid under 200 for it, so not going to complain.

I'm really liking the idea, but I am thinking of a bigger winch with an amsteel rope. Good to know it works good.

This winch is 3000lbs...I probably should have went with the 4500 one. But since the mini only weighs 3000, I figured I really couldn't pull much more than that anyways.

I have a 9000 winch on a receiver, just need to replace the motor I burned out years ago.

I don't know about the none Vermeers, but lights are another easy thing that should be stock.

I rented a old mini that had a light, and a horn, stock. But I can't thing of the name right now...I think it is the old one lumberjack likes (prior to boxer and avant)

Saw that pic of your mini behind cab and is something I'm thinking of doing. I have the Vermeer 800tx with beaver squeezer. Love it! Never thought I'd own a mini but after we got the Bandit 1990xp it was a must! I want to be able to load it on our rear mount elevator behind toolboxes and was wondering how long your ramps are and did you attach them permintally to truck or fold up and load? Plus it's seems like ours might hang out just a bit. Was wondering if you could give me some ideas of how you accomplished it.

My ramps are 7.5'...it works in my 40" high deck, but barely. I really need to get 9-10' ramps, but then storage becomes an issue.

The nice thing about the 650tx is it is only 71.5" long without a bucket...while the 725tx and 800tx are 84". So it fits on my 8' wide deck.

I would luv to pin on 10' bi-fold ramps (fold at 5')...but heard bi-fold ramps and minis don't work to well.
On one of my youtube channels I have footage of loaded and unloading the mini (links in signature).

Your the Man. Thanks! I'm going to have to figure that all out and might have to load grapple separately off to side. Be nice if I can get it to work out. I'll talk to my welder and this gives me a good starting point.
If not guess I'll keep toating the trailer. Thanks!!

I know of a company that hangs there grapple in the front of the truck, mounted to the bumper. They just drive up, hook it into a cradle made for the grapple and then load the mini behind the cab of the truck. Works great for them.
I too am thinking of building a chip truck to have the mini loaded behind the cab. I think its a good idea the more I really think about it.

Thanks, great idea as well! as far as putting horn on the machines would be nice, always a safe practice to have a signal to get people's attention. Got a horn on the crane at operator station. Me and all my guys have whistles attached to our helmet or chin strap that we use sometimes over equipment, or when in the tree and see something unsafe on ground. We are always looking out for each other and when you here that whistle it gets everybody's attention. And some days we just like to whistle to our work!

Here is my setup, it sits pretty low now and I have 8' aluminum folding ramps. It really needs 10' ones but I'm happy with the durability of the ramps. The second pic is one of me getting the truck stuck and pushing myself out with the switch n go bed.

Here are two pictures of my truck and set up. I use 12' folding aluminium ramps. The deck height on my truck is 44". The ramps are adiquate but I have to put a 2x4 at the bottom of each to insure the operators platform doesnt hit the ramps. Works good if all I need is the mini and grapple, but when I need the litter bucket I have to use the dump trailer.IMG_1305.webp IMG_0503.webp

Another point on the BMG, there is a 30 day money back guarantee on its performance. I sold the 926th grapple last week, only one has been returned.
