ITCC Rope Wrench Submission

Regardless of the verdict. It was a very good thing for me to have done this work. So for that, I am thankful. Hope this is helpful and helps provide more understanding of this tool.

Nicely done Kevin !! That is FAR more information than I have seen for any "approved" system at ITCC and certainly much more than any of the systems that get approved on the fly during the comp.

Good Luck on getting approval......not that production climbers require it..

I hope you submitted the information via Certified Mail.....would hate to go through the whole "we didn't receive any official submissions" mess again....

Question Kevin, in the video on the testing for the amount of friction in the RW using the slick pin. When you say that the distance is .25", is that measured from center-to-center of the pins, or outside-to-outside?

Just curious kevin after watching the drop test video I have a couple questions. Its seems with your testing and experience using the system you would have a a greater grasp of what is the best knot and rope combination for the system.Im just wonder what knot do you recommend, length and what type of rope to use for both climbing line and the friction hitch.

Wow!

What a document!

A few years ago I saw some load tests on climbing hitches done by some of Ken James' students in Australia. The results that I remember were a lot like yours with the RW where you saw slip/grab results. If I remember right though prusik hitches as a group performed the worst and slipped to failure at lower loads than the other hitches.

Keep us posted!

Jimmy, my experience is not that great really. I am an isolated climber with limited gear. I use lots of beeline. Tachyon, vortex, poison ivy. Tenex is a nice grabby hitch as well. Ive heard good things about ice. have been in a long term relatipmship with pi. Even still, it sometimes takes me two or three trys to get my hitch just right. I splice my eyes, between 26 and 28 inches. Wrapped and braided 6 to 7 times. I likd my reinforced 7 inch tether but have been playing around with one solid tether and elimimating the biner.
I treat my hitch like each hitch is a new hitch. No other device is taken apart and put back together. Attempting to pigeonhole a certain hitch can be misleading. My experience with hitches is that each one is a custom item. I can tie a blakes thaf works and i can tie one that doesn't.
