F8 revolver

Okay. One of my customers had a video camera and she filmed a little of the Feight revolver helping me dismantle the dying boxelder over her garage.

Normally on acent, I would not clip into the thing until I got to the top. I am just demonstating tending it while climbing with it on.

On the second ascent I do, while sliding the 8rev of the the rope, the bee line slips off the wire gate. that is something that would be resolved with a locking. You would have to permently splice it onto the locking though. I am not worried about it because it is essentially a redundancy which aids in decent allowing me to jump and swing.

Sorry for the quality of the video. it was emailed to me. Ill try to get it on CD or something.

Re: F8 revolver w/video

Thanks for the very quick responce! Looks good, going to have to try it sometime. Still don't see how it tends so easy, guess i'm just going to have to try it for myself.

Re: F8 revolver w/video

yeup, just try it. I know I've gotten better using it so there is a little learning curve involved.

the revolver is useful for other all kinds of other things so it doesnt hurt to always have on your harness. Likewise an eight is usefull. That beeline bridge I use is just a friction hitch that I spliced too long. It also is ueseful in other applications such as double crotching or extending my bridge in dDRT. the whole package weighs quite a bit less than any mechanical device.

doesnt hurt to have on your harness so you know its there if you need it sometime.

Re: F8 revolver w/video

Thanks for posting the video.

As you're climbing I didn't see you push the F8Revolver or f8r up the rope. It looked like your were slack tending your hitch though.

Does the f8r drop down on top of your hitch?

How do you climb and not end up with slack between the f8r and your hitch?

Is there a concern that the f8r could act as a slack tender above your hitch causing it to release for a bit until the f8r was locked above your hitch?

Re: F8 revolver w/video

You can tend it either way. the hitch grabs you and the slack ends up in the beeline hitch. that you just slide up the rope. It will not push your htch down as it is not a free falling body.

I have had on occasion the hitcch get caught in the device. Ive gotten better at avoiding that.

Like I said. Normally I would approach that tree without the F8rev installed. I would install it only when I needed to start working. Then, I just leave it on for the rest of the climb.

Re: F8 revolver w/video

I think basically it shold be recognized that the f8rev is something that is a little bit in the way while doing everything but descending. I do not think of it as life support.

my life support is my hitch. therefore if there is slack in the beeline, the rev gets crosswise, or falls off completely and disinigrates, i dont care as long as i dont need to go down ever.

It is a downward enabler that doesnt get in the way unbearably while going up. And, if it does get in the way, pop it off.

Re: F8 revolver w/video

Id like to see a video where you can actually see the F8 combination actually working on ascent and descent. In that vid you cant see sqwat.

Re: F8 revolver w/video

I think you've got a great idea with the F8 Revolver, Kevin. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I recently scored a Revolver out of a customer's garage recently (she had a pile of Rock climbing gear she wanted to get rid of) and haven't known what to do with it.

Re: F8 revolver w/video

thanks KS, I have been struggling to find things to do with the revolver since the day I bought it. Now i see its potential everywhere.

I cant wait to get the locking.

Tophopper, One more time, the thing only works on descent. I have not figured out how to make it help on the ascent. But, do you see me climbing without taking it off? that is the part when I go up the tree.

Do you see in the video me descending? That is the part when I go down the tree. Do i look out of control? does it look unsafe. In my next video would you like me to dive off the tree to prove it will catch me?

But I get the point, this will be the last post I make regarding this thing until the day I have a full-on high quality video, complete with helmet cams and bullet points. that might be a while. By then, you might get bored, try it out and make your own video.

By then, I might be bored with climbing on this thing and be climbing on a unicender or someother slick tool.

Re: F8 revolver w/video

Tryed this out today, i don't have a revolver so that might help it out a bit. Worked well on descent, little to much friction but like i said probably better with the revolver. I would need to toy with it a little to tune everything in perfectly.

I couldn't for the life of me ascend with it on, had to take it off everytime. Even for short stints i couldn't do it with out using both hands. Maybe the revolver helps in this aspect as well.

Like the idea something to try and play with. If it works for you keep at it. But like my grandfather used to say, if its not broken don't fix it. So i'll keep climbing Drt for now. Still fun to keep in the trick bag.

Not an idea to throw out the window, i do think your onto something. Keep at it

R&T,

That is what I call the 'Golden Retriever Syndrom'. Goldies are so happy and excited about everything...but...easily distracted. When they get back to where they started they seem to be a bit dumbfounded with themselves and remember what they were after in the first place. I think it's a good way to go at life!
