DMM throw hook.

Yeah, I was really unsure of getting the kit initially. I had 13m of 11.7mm with a sewn eye that could be used, but three things convinced me. Note, our kits here are a bit different.

First, the 10mm Sirius is light weight and red/black rocks! (sorry @moss I do like the green/black too).

Second, the kits here use a 4 L bag, not 3L. The bag is just that big bigger, it's easy to stuff and the hook can fit in it for a nice clean, tangle free setup.

Third, the shackle has a nut that's 1 time use. I couldn't be bothered with that as I have another use for my cougar blue.

That was my thinking, plus the pieces look good as a set and new kit should look good. Maybe a custom kit's the way to go. ;)

Regarding the bag and so I don't mess anyone up, I'm not sure if the Captain fits in the 3L so maybe someone can try theirs and report back. I just like how it does fit in the 4L.

Anyway, I need to go climb more, I'm typing too much.

Good morning WK, if you coil the 10mm, in a figure 8, the hook fits inside the 3L bag, just the end of the "Captain " sticks out of the bag. Perfect for grabbing and flaking, the 4L bag seems like a bit of overkill. All that matters, is that you're happy with it. I personally like the lower profile, nothing sticking out any further than necessary. Stay slim as to not get snagged on smaller branches. The Red/Black, does seem to fit my color scheme, with TreeMotion saddle, Black Bashlins, Red/Black long sleeve shirts, even my Ultra O's are Red, the only thing that is off are my Pfanner Gladiators (Blue). Glad to hear that you finally made the plunge for the "kit". Climb Safe, and enjoy!

I'm confident that the hook and the Akimbo are going to be the best combination.

I use my modded bulldog bone on the safari and it auto tends with foot ascender at most angles.

I have the BOAR on my lanyard, may have to wait another month to get a 2nd one, but for now the Trango Cinch is holding its own. I'm really happy with that setup. It ascends perfectly with my CT foot ascender, and my SAKA. I haven't had any issues with either as of yet!

One time use.....?????

Kauri can you clarify....cause that seems rubbish....

Good grief, all this coordination....whoa horsey....but to each his own...screw the bag....I just coil the damn thing....hang on my catitool...

Swing - I believe after looking at it that it's a self locking nut - has the silicone insert instead of using Loctite. They don't lock down as well after you remove them from the first use.

I'm confused by the kit bag size. How is the 3L bag it comes with larger than the 4L bag? Hook kit bag on the right.

Yup, it's in the manual. Moss picked up on this early.

I agree, the one on the left looks smaller. :)

I've done some interwebs research, looks like the dmm bags come as 4L and 6L.

Looks like the Kit comes with the 6L, and I've got the 3L.

The 3L is certainly enough for 15m of Sirius 10mm and the hook. I've been hanging my hitch off the saddle or the bag, but it would fit too.

There must be a misprint somewhere. TS advertises that it's a 3L bag but they sent it with the 6L bag.

Looking at the DMM site, it says it comes with a 3L bag, and the photo shows a smaller bag, similar to the 4L tool bag.

All nyloc nuts are technically one use only. This is per the ASME manual on fasteners. Just my two cents carry on
From an (experimental) aviation perspective, the general guideline is that nyloc nuts may be used more than once, as long as you cannot install or turn them by hand. The official measurement is that the nut must meet the minimum prevailing torque values for that size nut. When you do replace it, use a quality nut that meets standards, not a cheap one from the hardware store. Maybe buy a bag from Aircraft Spruce or Wicks.

That is correct, there is no such thing as a 3L bag, misprint on the DMM Captain Kit literature. The kit comes with the DMM 6L bag. The bag shown in the literature that comes with the kit is the 4L. The 4L would be too small for 15 meters of 10mm line never mind trying to fit the hook in. The 6L fits 15 meters of 10mm with room to spare to put the hook and a Cinch etc. as well.

The DMM 6L Tool Bag has a D shaped profile and is approximately 12.5" tall, 6.6" on the wide dimension of the D profile and 5.25" on the narrower width dimension.

Hope this info helps if you're shopping to build your own kit. Still waiting for my paycheck from DMM ;-)
