DMM throw hook.

FWIW....I hate all this crap dangling off my harness....just climb and get out the tree....this gear trip is getting out of hand...every new tool is not going to make a better or more efficient climber...climbing does that...most of the new gear coming out is for sales it seems

Some not All gear has made our days more productive, but in response to Swingdudes comment, you're absolutely correct. Simplicity is Significant. Grapples and Hooks have been around a lot longer than a good portion of the people on this site, they were and still are the best way to securely move from point A to B to C, without free swinging haphazardly. Most of what's on the market these days have become tools (toys) for the fortunate. Give a lazy man a hard mans job and he'll find an easier way to accomplish it. Not saying any of us are lazy, or we wouldn't do what we do. But, there have been a lot of great innovations introduced to our trade over the years. BTW, Tim I don't run a deli. So go get your own sandwich. LMAO!

Ok, so I wasn't climbing with this today, but here's my kiwi Captain kit from Treetools - 4L (not the 6L) bag, 15m 10mm Sirius, Captain, plus an existing hitch/pulley. Will normally use a HC, but it was in use.

Everything incl hitch/pulley.

And with hitch/pulley on the side

Haha! So true but... I am in love with this new combination. These two multi function tools, the Petzl rollclip and the CT rollnlock, when combined and used as a 3:1 haul-back are just outstanding. Smooth as silk, small and faster on and off the rope than anything else I have tried.

Kauri what type of bike is that?....talus fox shock and what is your name bro?.....nicd to meet you ...do you climb full time?

Hey! The bike I'm real happy with. It's a 2014 Marin Mount Vision Carbon XM Pro. Shocks are both Fox Factory Floats, 32s on the front and X on the rear. Kind of a fast trail bike - not for the big stuff, still nimble and quick. It's a 27.5er, really light and I love the 1x drivetrain and dropper post. I like riding flowy technical tracks with lots of up and down.. the more climbing, the more descending, oh yeah.

I've been climbing now 2 years. I'm a rec climber and I climb every weekend possible. Hard to fit it around family and family activities. Climb SRT, with any other technique that adds to that. Our family sport is mountain biking. Wife has a nicer bike, but no climb gear, haha. My kids tree climb a bit too. Day job is IT leadership. Working with people and tech is my non-sports passion.

Name's Jason. WaitakKauri is my favourite park, the Waitak ranges and Kauri our famous kiwi tree. Avatar is a young Kauri stand in the Waitaks taken while running. Climbing, biking and trail running are my happy places, haha.

I'd certainly like to have a climb, bike and beer with you guys and meet you in person. Not sure if or when I'll get to the Caribbean, it's a bit of a paddle from here. Might have some work trips this year and if so will try to get a West Coast climb in with someone, somewhere maybe near San Fran/Palto Alto or Seattle. Not sure yet.

Anyway, that's my bike and climb background... and I'm diggn the Captain (y)
@swingdude cheers bro

Nice to meet you Jason ....love the info....mountain biking is my passion...running was but as I have gotten older not so much...I ride a niner out of colorado...29" wheels...fox talus 120 up front and some rock shock at back...we like going way up and bombing downhill....I am sure NZ ix breathtaking with boss rides...I climb for a living....been on predominantly SRT since 2012...it's my thing...name is Paul..

Damn, the hook rocked it yesterday, it is so killer combined with SRT. Did a prune on multiple trees, one base anchor, moved quickly from tree-to-tree with the hook. But the best part is how much I'm liking the hook for quick positioning support in what would otherwise be awkward struggle moments. It's like having a second SRT line whenever you need it, quick hook on wherever you can put it, do what you have to do, quick hook off.

Climbers expect and believe they have to muscle thru all the weird positions in trees, with tools like the hook you can work relaxed at the right moments (running saws, doing gear changeovers, balancing on tricky limbwalks/etc.) and save your muscle and sustained awkward body positions for when there's no other way. If I'm assessing a climb and it's obvious I won't use the hook it doesn't go up with me.

Finishing up pruning dead tops over wires on an extreme lean black oak over a steep slope, never felt so comfortable working in such a difficult location. I have to redefine what is difficult now. My rope is basal anchored in a tree back by the house

In this situation with a main rope, lanyard and the hook in play I could work the saw and wood with super strong body positioning. In the photo below I just put my lanyard in to take out the redirect, reposition the hook and traverse back to the tree I came from.
