DMM throw hook.

Ok, thank you. I thought I was losing my mind. Mine did come with the 6L (12.5" tall) bag.

When WaitakKauri said he had the 3L and the rope and hook fit fine, I was a little skeptical.

Here is the 4L (8.5" tall bag) crammed tight with the Sirius and Hook.

I bought the Captain Hook separately from the kit and am trying to decide whether or not to splice the 80' of Reep Schnur directly to it or use a quick link...
Suggestions? @moss

Yes, as discovered, I have the 4L, not the 6L.

Mine looks similar with everything in, though with the drawstring closed, it covers the hook.

Looks like the Kit comes with the 6L, and I've got the 3L.

The 3L is certainly enough for 15m of Sirius 10mm and the hook.

Doh... I mistyped 3L here in this post only, it should read 4L. Just a typo and didn't notice my mistake. I'll blame it on using my iPhone to post while on my early morning bus commute.

More reports from the front lines. Using the hook line with a lanyard on one end is cool but hockling comes with it, that's true pretty much anytime you use double-ended rope systems. That's why I've always liked the tail of my lanyard and main ropes hanging free. The Sirius is so supple that it will hockle like a champ.

The 10mm Sirius is great stuff but... using with a belay device or a hitch under sustained load, it will milk. Milking and Hockling, good country-western song title ;-)

The hook throwing technique that is winning for me is how you would you would throw line anyway short of making a monkey fist. Make a coil, grab the hook and coil with your throwing hand, leave some slack below you, toss them together underhand, works great.

The tail of my SRT climbing line has a DdRT system, either Hitch Climber or ZigZag, I can't imagine pulling that Hook around on the tail but I guess I could tie it on and remove the Hitch Climber if there was a need. Maybe an advantage to NOT having it spiced on the end as in the kit?

From an (experimental) aviation perspective, the general guideline is that nyloc nuts may be used more than once, as long as you cannot install or turn them by hand. The official measurement is that the nut must meet the minimum prevailing torque values for that size nut. When you do replace it, use a quality nut that meets standards, not a cheap one from the hardware store. Maybe buy a bag from Aircraft Spruce or Wicks.
You are certainly correct, I was simply stating the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) standard I use nylocs twice all the time three and 4 times if needed. Loctite is a great thing. Like Rich said Technically you can't.

I find it a bit disturbing that we as a whole "Arborists/Tree Climbers " are trying to save $.59-$1.00/per unit to use new nyloc nuts, when we spend hundreds, even thousands per month. No nut is worth a failure or a situation that can endanger our already dangerous jobs. IMHO, I'll just buy all new if that's alright with the people that try to save for a ham sandwich! My Blah,Blah is over!

I am not trying to save on nuts...the stupid hook is not life support and certainly not necessary....I have one it's cool and all that...but climbing with that fuckery all day long is madness...when you are fucking with that thing I would have swung down and advanced my tail and be in position cutting...screw nylon nuts...
