Compact Bulldog Bone

trying to get proficient enough with it to use it all the time at work.
i try to focus on getting something done as fast as possible (safely) and this focus gets disrupted when using new toys such as the bone, specifically in moments where, i dont want to say uncomfortable, but lets just call it, less than comfortable.
the DRT deal is sweet with it, but i mentioned on that thread, the few times ive played with it i was running the bone on one and a hitchclimber system on the other, so maybe a little different then what others are trying
I hear ya. I had to take the BDB home for a weekend and try a few things on my own time. Too hard to concentrate when production is on my mind.

Andre, point is you're using it somehow, and benefitting from one of its greatest attributes. How much longer would it have taken to set up a closed DdRT on your tail, or even to tie in another hitch/HC system in DdRT. Man that thing JUMPS onto the line.

You'll have it dialed in no time for sure. Like Will said, you'll really love when you're fluent on that thing in a large prune or removal.

Not long ago I ran it on a removal. Tied in with a Running Bowline and connected to my bridge in SRT. Opened up the choke and advanced it with my lanyard. Cut off some brush, set some blocks, started sending down the wood. The nice thing about a Running Bowline canopy anchor is you can throw the standing end through a few unions and tie off at a lower point. This way you can get bolstered redirects as you might in a base tie for good TIP height for the work until it's time to remove what you're tied into, but you don't have to climb all the way up to your TIP...just get to the Bowline, untie it, and unthread your redi's. Tie back in and...wait for it...Cut high and let fly!

TRUE! Can't you see a Nano just spinning around and slowly getting closer and closer? LOL! I'll admit, I wasn't crazy about the Nano mod until I began to climb DSRT more and more. That is where they shine so bright. Otherwise, in SRT, I would prefer just to use the Rotator L on the bridge.

Man, we've had some super warm weather lately and I've been flying this for a few days...totally laughing out loud at how well it works.
Can you explain your opinion on the nano for srt. Not following it too well. Was thinking about th nano mod whn I get the bone. Should I just use a swivel on the bridge?

Steve, you might want to wait until you get you BDB and try it as is, see what you think. I do not normally climb with a swivel but because it was overwhelmingly recommended I thought I should try one. I wasn't impressed so I am now back to just my bridge ring. I think whether you will need a swivel depends on how you climb. For sure the Bulldog Bone can be used quite easily without one.

Nano Swivel has been catching my eyes as well. I have been using the L Petzl swivel on my bridge and it works good. It is nice to be able to spin the bone to either side when, say descending on limb walks. However, I don't like using a swivel when I work a tree Ddrt for certain removals. If the rope is twisted, it makes the swivel do all types of weird things while body thrusting. It is not my cup of tea.

So the Nano on the bone gives me the option of going back to a ring on my bridge. Hope this makes sense

I've found a swivel needed more for proper orientation with the RR than the BDB....always use one with the RR, rarely use one with the BDB.

FWIW, the swivel made a big difference for me Steve. Makes it easier to get fine movements. I keep mine on the bridge. Cant really compare it to keeping it on the BDB because I've never tried that.

Steve, I used to run a stock Bone with a swivel on my bridge. Since I went to a ton of DSRT with two Bones, I added the Nano to each one and it really helps for orientation and loading/unloading when they are vectored out.
If you're going to run a Bone in SRT, you can run it stock with a bridge ring like DSMc said, or put a swivel on your bridge. I agree with TreeLogic that the swivel on the bridge is nice, even in normal SRT.

Do you guys think this swivel-biner would be a good choice for the bone? I have no idea if it would fit cleanly or not, but seems cost efficient

Something like that would be neat if it could fit . I always keep the same biner clipped in the thing all the time anyway. Wonder if one of the rock swivel biners would fit .? The only time I don't take the rope out for redirect is when I can easily pass it around by hand and that orientation would suit me I think.

Maybe someone around here has one of those 2 swivabiners to try out on the Bone. I don't think I'll be purchasing something like that totally blind but would love to know if it works.

Thank you DSMc for that tending spot! It really worked exceptionally well for me today. Better than any other tending spot thus far.

Usually I would be walking up the rope just fine and then boom, some pretty rough resistance. I have been having a little trouble nailing down the problem. However, The top tending spot took that out of the equation all together today on a pretty gnarly removal. Silky smooth. The bone was even eating up slack on its own coming back from limb walks.

I have one Mike. This one I think. https://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?category_id=130&item=1612 Got it for a lanyard snap and wasn't real happy with it. It's smaller yet bulkier than I was expecting but who knows, it might be perfect for the BDB.

Give me a few days and I'll give it a try. I have to cut it out of a spliced eye on a lanyard.

Ha! That's great to hear, Mike! I knew as soon as I tried it that it was " the spot " and though I would love to take credit for it, it was treegongfu that was the originator of the idea.
