Compact Bulldog Bone

I have the blue and prefer it to the Tachyon. I weigh 200 lbs and use the stock bollard. The cougar releases a bit better requiring less force to descend and making it a bit smoother.

It is quite expensive though.

The grey/red/yellow Cougar milks a little less but the performance is the same as blue, I've rocked both. It is expensive but not like platinum expensive (pun intended).

I have not seen any milking but that is good to know. I think I'll get the grey/red/yellow when I start making some money.

Does cougar stay as round? I keep filling a treestuff cart and then deleting it. I usually buy gear in large orders, and I'm over due one, but it's the rope that has been keeping me from it.

I find some flattening but that is from going up and down the same 20 feet playing with the system. I also find the same effect on the tachyon but to a lesser extent.

Hopefully Warthaug or one of the other climbers using cougar with the bdb will speak up.

Cougar and the Yale 11.7's are exactly the same construction, however, Cougar has been pre tensioned more as it's braided. This results in all its characteristics that I love; firm, round, static feeling, non milking, and challenging to splice. It flattens when in the Bone but always return to form, unlike the Yale 11.7's. And dats da truf

Not sure I've ever loved a rope partially because it is challenging to splice, but I'm glad you get the enjoyment out of the process. LOL, I splice, but the process itself is always a chore nowadays and never because I just feel like splicing.

Thanks for the input, Esspecially being that you've already said that you are tired of proclaiming your cougar love in this thread.

Okay I bit the bullet and just ordered a matching set of BDB's from Gordon, now I have to go back and read all 50 something pages in this thread. Lol
It's some good Winter time reading, ML. Enjoy...the thread and the Bones!

Since I already run twin bridges and swivels I belive I should be good to go. I just need to select the proper bollard for my Vortex.
Might be no bollard at all there, especially in DSRT. Maybe DSMc will chime in (he's on V'tex)...and maybe even post more jewelry photos.

definitely bollardless ML.
though i'd encourage you to try some tachyon or cougar.
yes, i know they're harder on the hands, but the strange thing is, I don't seem to use my hands as much with the BDB, especially when going full fledged SRWP. occasionally I do but very rarely with all my weight on the line.

Hahaha!!! Has anyone else besides treegongfu and I tried this tether location? I think it is superb! As the BDB advances smoothly up the rope the upper arms are pre-set to instantly engage, no set back.

ML, I also think Vortex is the best rope out there for tree work. The BDB works fine with the small bollard if your rope is new and slick, or no bollard if are using an older piece that is less slick.

Thanks DSMc, I have both new and used. Well as used as a rec climber can make them. Certainly no where near the wear you guys put on them in a year.

Pretty sure mike powers tried that tending location though shorter than in pic above pages ago . I've used that spot as well with just a piece of dynemma bungee. I actually prefer it up the back of the spine ,but being as bungee stretches it ends up in same location whilst tending just on outside of arms not inside .
