bandit 1890xp brute

Mike, did they build u a custom 1990 chipper or did they add a mini ramp to a 1990? We demoed a 1990 grapple fed chipper and although it was a very nice chipper it couldn't handle the really nasty stuff as well as the 22"x36" 790 could, and we hated the grapple.

I tried to work with woodsman, the 790 openning is 20 x 36 according to specs. I asked if they could build a 22 or 24 x 36 inch.........they said no. I needed the 24" cap to get rid of junk wood. Yeah they built it from scratch with a little longer frame, longer discharge chute, and moved the axles to balance weight better.

Mike I just read your article on the bandit site nice machinery! I like how you had your chipper custom built to hall your mini. I’m still up in the air about the size skid steer to get. Sometimes we are in really tight neighborhoods and other times we are in really open areas. Nice article!

Don't take this the wrong way, we really liked the 1990, very well might be our next machine, I am not saying anything bad about ur chipper, very nice setup and good writeup too.
By the specs it might not seem like it but the 790hd will take a bigger log then the 1990...for better or worse, chipping pine we have sent plenty of 24" logs some ripped to 24x36", almost frightening watching them go thru

And as much as we are impressed with what it can do I have nothing good to say about how they stand behind (I mean don't stand behind) their products. When you by a woodsmen you are on your own, that is a huge part of why one of our bucket crews has a new bandit behind them.

That's a nice sized log! The Woodsman grapple looks well built.

I could really use a large capacity chipper.

Wow....that's a wide log! That's where that 36" wide opening can't be beat. But the opening is only 20 inch tall so for round logs 20 inch is max that was one of the deciding factors for me. (woodsman 790 20 x36, bndt 1990 24.5 x 26). I smell a factory "chip off" competition. :) IAA had one yrs ago at the annual conf.

Just measured the 790 24"x37" side to side, tip of tooth to deck, we have not modified it at all. You can't really go by the website I don't think woodsmens every made two machine exactly the same

I had the dealer talk to the factory. They told me it was 20 and I couldn't have it custom any larger. I wonder if they quit building them that big? Or ? It might have cost them a sale.

Woodsmens tend to "stretch" over time too...who knows I am seen 5 790s and everyone of them is different. If we every buy another woodsmen we are going to get a staggered pocket drum

I got a call from the bandit rep, Joe D. in response to my above post.. Glad to know they are paying attention. Joe rightly pointed out that the bad experience I had with one of their grinders dated back to 2006, shortly after Bandit got into the stump grinder market. I tend to stay with the tried and true, and hesitate to go with something new in machinery. SO that might have been unfair to bandit. They may have fixed the problem and have a great grinder now. They certainly make a good chipper....

Has anybody had any problems with the top feed wheel not being able to pick up in a Bandit 1890HD? I just bought one yesterday it's got good hydraulics everything works well except it can not pick the top feed wheel up. It's got down pressure but that's it. Looks like the wheel wants to go up but just won't.

Those symptoms sound just like what my 90XP does when there is just the right/wrong amount of wood and or splinters jammed up on the back side of the feed wheel box. Maybe check that with a long rod just in case.

That could be it I'll check in the morning I put a 20" pine tree through it today and it worked fine went to do the second one and it just wouldn't go.
