See, that is just restating what Boom said-the tyranny you're actually referring to is that of George the third, but the tyranny you think you're referring to is that of the government of the United States of America, a federal constitutional Republic. No one, not the Clintons, not Trump, no one can unilaterally disarm the American people. That's not how the system works, and the "big government", "big brother", "unchecked feds" talk is nonsense. The federal government is composed of professionals and people we pick. They will abide only by decisions reached through our democratic process. If you don't like the results of that process, you are free to work to change them peacefully. It's time to stop worrying about tyranny from our proven system and start or continue to contemplate why we've had more peaceful transfers of power than any nation in history.Boom, I respect your views and opinions, and you. Tyranny was the reason behind the 2nd. If the government has such weapons (we're still talking small arms), why shouldn't we? We can't defend ourselves with out dated arms if we're up against modern fire power. Hopefully that will never happen, but it will if we are restricted to an arm of inadequate comparison, how would we prevail? History repeats itself. Tyranny is always ready to reel its ugly head.
Aside from which, as boom said, firearms are more powerful than the framers ever could have imagined. Have you ever handled or fired a black powder weapon? I don't currently own firearms, but I spent almost 20 years is the reserve and some time overseas-I will take a man with a lever or bolt action over a boy with an AK every time. The technology is too easy to understand and replicate to ever truly be taken away. The question is whether you approach our society as a committed participant or as a drop-of-the-hat rebel. Automatic, and arguably semi-automatic weapons, have only one purpose: killing other armed human beings. Anything you can do with one, I can do as well or better with a manual action... except killing people. Why do we need that in our midst. I am an American, my blood will spill to preserve our union and the pen, not our division and the sword.
