Wait, if the question is why not just notch it right into the lay that's sorta obvious,
I'm pretty sure everybody here has a grasp of that.

Apparently not everyone.. and when one person asked the question, no one here stepped in and answered it.. So what is going on here on TB? That is what I have asked myself..
There are plenty of arborists on other sites, that think the job was pretty straight-forward, no big deal drop. I AM in their camp...

Alright, I'll step in here, because I know of only 3 prominent, knowledgeable arbo forums. TreeBuzz, Tree House, and Arbtalk. In all three I can definitely say that you are not in their so called camp. And that's because these forums are actually full of knowledgeable people who can see through your bull crap. What you call "out of the box" or even "state of the art" is actually a lot of luck combined with practices that have been around for ages. The other forums I know of are mostly full of guys like yourself, people with ego's too large for their heads and to relieve the pressure, they look to internet forums. Expect, when they turn to a forum like TB, or TH, they get reamed because those forums have members who see them for what they are, guys who get by with lots of luck and little skill.
How about you lose the skid steer and all your pulling equipment, grab a saw and some wedges, and fall trees in the lay you want them, with great precision. Then maybe, just maybe, you can begin to talk with some of the more knowledgeable people. Until then Daniel, just stay with the forums who's camp your in and stop trying to teach the more knowledgeable forums about your "advanced" felling techniques.
