Be honest… I used to be in the “only check when something feels off” group.

But after a couple of rough days on land clearing jobs (mostly forestry mulching and brush clearing), I switched to doing quick daily checks—and it honestly saved me more downtime than I expected.

For me it’s not a full inspection every morning… just a quick routine:
  • fluids (engine oil, hydraulic)
  • hoses and fittings (mulchers take a beating)
  • teeth condition on the head
  • tracks/undercarriage
In land clearing, especially with forestry mulching, things wear out fast because you’re constantly hitting hidden debris, rocks, or dense material. One loose hose or worn tooth can turn into a bigger issue mid-job.

That said… I still don’t go overboard.

If I’m running the same machine all week on a consistent site, I keep it simple daily and do a deeper check every few days or before a big project.

Curious how others handle it:
Do you guys follow a strict daily checklist, or just go by feel and experience?

Don't put equipment through the rough use of land clearing...but I'm not great at all scheduled maintenance. Pretty good with basic oil changes, hitting grease point, and the like. It's usually when I notice some off, then I'll start looking and doing thorough once over to pick up all the other neglected maintenance items.

I’m lucky enough to have my workshop/storage on my property, so I can potter around my machinery at the weekend at my leisure.
Stuff is regularly serviced and checked, just levels and greasing, teeth, blades and cutting tools get a visual most days.
