    What slings do you recommend?

All gear 9/16 here. No complaints except mine are too long lol. Only reason I went with all gear is they are like $60 cheaper per sling than anywhere online at my local arb supply shop. WLL seemed comparable enough to the other options. Good enough. Crane operator we use gets his from some old...

    Need a new mechanical

I say that not because it is invisible, but because it is barely talked about within more popular circles and its potential seems to be unknown to most. Myself included. Richard Mumford does has a great video on YouTube, but there is very few others that talk about it. There was less than a page...

    Need a new mechanical

Just found a 12 year old thread discussing the barrel for the uni on arbtalk - not sure if I’d want the top termination hole gone but it sure is cool sounding. Looks like Thompson sold it on his website in the past. The uni is way underground I guess.

    Need a new mechanical

Very good to know - glad to have even a small bit of input haha. Have a monster black willow crane removal coming up next month that is definitely pushing me to see if I can snag one. I don’t think it’s a device I would use on the regular but it seems to be the proper tool for this situation if...

    Sharpening options for 540iXP?

It seems to take off too much of the raker in my opinion. Also with the 540ixp I found it’s annoying to get the whole combo unit in there. But the heart wants what it wants.

    Sharpening options for 540iXP?

Someone in the past on here mentioned it’s a tough one to file, they just always buy fresh chains for this one particular saw since the fresh ones rip so hard. I pretty much use this saw exclusively and think I just finally found the sweet spot. It was spitting out some great fettucini lookin...

ART BlackBird for "MRT and SRT"

Forums in 2025 are all about the derail. I was just thinking about the uni for crane work, we do two climbers with crane assist a lot. I’m rarely on spar but it would be nice to have a device that is designed for srt based on the occasional need to choke off and rappel down without having to...

    Rope advancing tool

That is indeed a bummer. 10” would be a luxury but 6” would be quite the sweet spot. Would sure make a quick reset of your anchor when hard to get with throwball nice.

    Rope advancing tool

I recall looking around for one way back when and didn’t see anything premade but I believe Jameson now makes one, available on Arbsession.

    Two Rope Climbing

Makes sense in concept. If you bust it out anytime soon a photo would be killer. Paul’s video of his redirect and my practice the other day gave me a pretty significant revelation I can’t get over. Setting a second line from the ground and a standalone anchor would be rare in my area, but...

    Two Rope Climbing

Both the heli belay and the redirect in Paul Poynters video have me madly inspired. Small break with temps above 0 so did some two rope practice today in an old sugar maple and man - it was a heck of a time. Great exercise in rope management and planning a working path.

    Avant 528 vs cast 33d

The off road tires are essential for winter work in snow. Snowblower attachment was also incredible. We used to blow the heck out of the work zone, made large property oak pruning a breeze at the first company I worked for. Really improved morale and workflow. Working in the snow has been a pain...

    Avant 528 vs cast 33d

if the cast is from top notch equipment steer clear. Based on memory, I don’t recall any other cast dealers around, sorry if someone else. They are not great to work with unfortunately. We have a giant and indeed, machine is much more durable but the throttle system takes practice. You push a...

    Two Rope Climbing

Working on a topped tree questions.

Lots of silver maples on my side of town, less to the west where the biome starts to change. Some topped, holding up great. Topping is not usually the problem with these - cutting large lower laterals is. In the modern day, many companies lift them infinitely - “high and tight” - myself...

    Two Rope Climbing

Sometimes additional caution is required. Sometimes too much caution makes our minds lazy. Sometimes an additional safety measure can bite you too. Balance, eh?

    Two Rope Climbing

There are situations it’s necessary of course but with a 2nd lanyard and the “dragging tail” method it’s usually just way too cumbersome, at least around here. Indeed, @SoftBankHawks has some very very neat diagrams of ideas with hardware for two lines on his instagram (woodenhand) but it’s a...

    The Bry-Dan Saddle

Lotta great history pictured here. Very cool. As saddles go through another round of change in standards, I wonder what’s been lost more than ever.

    Chainsaw Shopping

88 ton - very cool. We have used one a few times now, much smaller tho. We still prefer a stick crane but neat machine for when the situation calls for it. The computerized dynamic loading stuff is pretty nutso. Thanks for sharing.
