Here in Germany -2 F° (-18 C°) would be considered too cold to go outside. I remember that when it got that cold last year, my face started freezing after 30min outside... Theres no way I would climb in such weather! I only climb if its above 0 C° (32 F°) and reasonably dry. Maybe more extreme...
Interesting gear, your setup is very different than mine. I have a lot of questions:
Is the green drum for throwline storage?
What do you use the thin yellow rope on the left for? It looks like it is thinner than 9mm...
What climbing system do you use?
They are not very safe if you use them as ascenders, if they rotate they will unlock and you will fall if you are not secured to the rope in some other way. They are a really good descender though, I prefer them over any other device when I go abseiling on a cliff.
The tennis ball is filled with gravel. Works well and is very cheap. Could be heavier though, I need to make some with iron pellets.
I use the F8 as an emergency descender/ascender, not very safe but better than nothing.
I am a purely rec climber, and I used a webbing loop as a backup while learning how to use a lanyard and advance my TIP, I was much more confident that I wouldn't fall that way. Helped me a lot, but I stopped using a backup because I felt I didn't need all that extra backup, and also because it...
I think I am going to try making one out of 3mm aluminum sheet in a couple of months (I currently have no space to work). If I stack two sheets of aluminum I might be able to cut them on my jigsaw and still get two identical pieces. If I drill the holes before cutting, I should be able to bolt...
The Oval looks interesting, I tried it Indoors and the results were quiet promising. I could maybe make one of those RWs from sheet metal, the specific pulley you can convert is not available in Germany (the normal ISC wrench is, it costs 200$ though...)
I think I would still switch to a RADs...
I am a rec climber and I currently use a RADS system for climbing SRT. I would like to try ropewalking, but most friction devices available on the market are expensive >100€. Are there climbing systems that are less expensive? I have stumbled upon the f8 revolver, that method can be used with a...
I think potential benefits are:
-talking instead of only writing
-maybe a faster response to messages
the downside would be that things that are said are not available for anybody to search up on google and available at all times. A lot of people on here might not know what others talk about on...
Discord is a voice chat program that was originally made for gaming. This program allows you to create your own "servers" that other people can join. I dont know how good such a thing would work in the tree climbing community, but I think its worth a try.
Gently crush them with your feet. Works 50% of the time :D
I have never collected nuts while climbing, but there are a lot of walnut trees in Germany. I know one area with about 50 walnut trees where I have collected multiple kgs of nuts in one go, enough for the whole year. The good walnuts are...
@Bob Bob You are the AerialTraveler? I was the guy who commented about the stuck throwbag in your beech video, I actually wondered if you were on TreeBuzz... I really like the quality of your videos, I tested my new camera on my MTB, and with the chest mount video is very shaky. It looks great...
I started climbing for t5 geocaching, but I found that I enjoyed climbing itself so much that I stopped geocaching and just climbed any tree that looked interesting.
I enjoy the challenge that comes with climbing a tree, and I like seeing how my skills improve over time. Hanging 50 feet above...
Thanks for doing all that research, I bought myself another gopro ripoff on friday though. I ended up going for a slightly more expensive one, its called "Rollei 430" . I havent taken it up into a tree since its been raining like crazy, but when I do I will post some pictures here(y)
