    more fun with knucklebooms

photoshop hahaha.....I don't even know how to photoshop :) THAT LOG WEIGHS 32700 LBS. well past my payload but I only had to go around the corner to dump it. My 175 ton would pluck that at a radius of 51ft....but for that crane it wasn't lifted all at once....more of a controlled one end at a...

    Kboom Load Charts

I swear Classic and Lumberjack (carl) have all the answers.....any crane....anytime :) my 2 11 year old HEAVILY used EFFER cranes can attest to the fact that you'll want to keep an eye on the stability more than the rating of the boom section/angle (don't get me wrong you cant push limits too...

    more fun with knucklebooms

A lot of people have been asking to see more photos...so rather than start over digging up photos...will just post some here. This thing is a log hauling monster...on pruning days its just a boom for the man basket

    husqies that won't idle hot.

Re: husqies that won\'t idle hot. Are the filters freezing up? remember they have that little plastic door under the filter cover that lets the warm engine air keep the filter from freezing? (or maybe its something more)

    Electric Grapple For KBOOM

ive had one of these for 6-7 yrs. They work unbelievably well for picking stems that are horizontal to about 75 degrees....I set up slings to hold it vertical for vertical. you can't use it on every tree though....but when you can it is amazing and fun. there are a few vid clips on my youtube...

    purple leaf ornamental

Yeah that's what I thought .....castor bean.....unless the stem is woody? If its woody then could be a purple cultivar of Kalopanax pictus! (never seen the purple leaf form but read that some exist)

Kboom unloading logs from flat bed

On a behind the cab mount no matter how much you build up the sub frame you are limited to the strength of the truck frame rails. (mine has been going strong for a decade with not the slightest issue) but this is another advantage to rear mount! There are disadvantages too. (with a front mount...

Kboom unloading logs from flat bed

My 2 cents.....get the dump bed or you will have to add weight to the sub frame for stability. When I had the 55tm built I overestimated the weight of the steel bed and hoist (that I was transferring from my first 1993 kboom to the 55tm) there wasn't enough weight when the truck was finished. In...

    crane vs. concrete driveway.

Yeah Dave you are welcome here anytime. Youre right it's a totally different system in some ways. I think you'll be a bit impressed but I also think your fleet is big enough that a kboom won't make or break your biz'. (my company is as small as they get......imagine being the climber and...

    crane vs. concrete driveway.

No dbl its not a fight at all. And mine won't make picks at 200'radius!!! I'm just talking about pound for pound and just not having to haul counterweights around on several trucks and dunnage and extra pads and extra permits and stuff. I didn't mean it like that. We have already been over most...

    Spider lift comparisons

That's great John! Glad to hear you like it. I wish they made more insulated models. (lots of overhead ut'es here :)

    crane vs. concrete driveway.

Every time I look at all the weight the stick booms are haulin' around not to mention all the extra cribbing needed for set up it makes me thankful I went the Knuckleboom route. (making' picks and 80-90 ton crane makes with a truck that weighs 10000 lbs less than a 40ton......using 2-4...

    Fellow buzzer has passed

Continued condolences......i know the kind of pressure a company owner can be under: bills/overhead, selling the right amount of work, keeping equipment running, safety, dealing with the occasional unreasonable customer (or people in general....I remember Cam's story about his neighbor who hired...

85 ton Palfinger k-boom for sale

Think it's funny we are called a cult! And that's cool.......but we're really not a cult........JUST A BUNCH THAT LIKES TO GET A LOT OF TREE WORK DONE WITH ONE TRUCK.......and sometimes better than we could with 3 trucks :)

    ratchet straps

24 inch ash should be about 200 lbs per foot. Figure the weight for whatever length it is. I would use a safety factor of 4-1 so about 4 times what the weight is for the rated straps used.......unless you're going to try to climb.......then a 10-1. And only if the straps can be used in a manner...
