crane vs. concrete driveway.

http://www.bigge.com/crane-charts/truck-crane-charts/T340-1SC.pdf

Base weigh of terex t340xl is 60,053, and 1789 for jib, 315 for fuel, 60 for heater in operator cab,35 for worklights, 87 for sling box, 240 for 7 ton ball,6636 for counterweight,444 for front and rear air suspension,510 for auto transmission, according to my math equals 70,169 plus wire resistent rope + 32= 70,201. Not sure where anyone is coming up with 54k or 61k.

would be interesting to have an actual scale weight. only reason i am commenting is the dot [pick a different word] in ct. are constantly weighing cranes and the t340 is as big as you can go unrestricted (without a travel permit-24/7) in ct. that weight is 34k rear +22.5k front. total=56.5k. (dot loves fines from overweight)

i stand corrected. according to terex data sheet there is a 13,000# difference between t340 (94'boom) and t340xl (105' boom). units i were referring to were 94' boom. all other optional weights are the same for both models. longer boom and additional counterweight account for 13k increase.

Go to a local scrap yard and put front of truck on 1st. Get that weight. Then pull all the way on get total weight. Subtract front weight from total that should give a good indication what rear weight should be. Also you probably could pull forward and get front axel off. To get rear weight. I would do both just to see if there is any credence to this. I never done this because my closest scrap yard guy is not a delightful person. I always wanted too. If anybody is able to pull this off I would interested to hear you results.

Knock on wood...Ohio is 33 and 1/3rd cents for every pound over...may be a federal fine idk...i work here and don't get popped...knock knock again.

Norm- the picture you showed looked like a terex t340xl. The 35 ton probably weighs more than 54k. If you are working with a terex with 105' of main its an xl. Not many hydraulic truck cranes are 54k unless the are below 30 ton. Most people dont understand how much these things weigh. They are heavy! And for the record. We make people sign off on lawn damage and driveway damage every week.

Thanks.
We've worked with 18, 25, 30, 35, 40, 40XL, 70, 90, 150 and 200 ton cranes. Grove, Terex, National, Link-Belt and Liebherr. I had a weight chart for each at one time, but can't find it. It must be the 30 ton Terex that weighs in at 54,000 lbs. The 40XL is the largest we have put on a concrete drive. Anything larger stays on the street.
I apologize for the misinfo.

That sounds about right, my 22 ton Manitex 22101S weighs in at 43K. That's with lots of rigging, and a couple spreader bars, and other junk. Probably 1500 lbs extra gear.

Every time I look at all the weight the stick booms are haulin' around not to mention all the extra cribbing needed for set up it makes me thankful I went the Knuckleboom route. (making' picks and 80-90 ton crane makes with a truck that weighs 10000 lbs less than a 40ton......using 2-4 fiberglass pads total :)

Mike- have yet to find a knuckleboom chart that would work for us. We are regularly picking at 75'. I'm good for 5200lbs over the rear- can your knuckleboom do that? Maybe i haven't looked at a big enough knuckleboom

With the full counter weight package this 90 can pick 8k +at 100'. A friend of mine has this crane. We have used this crane once. We picked 19 75'+ pine trees in 3 hours. All the trees weighed btwn 6-9k lbs. It was impressive.

Mike,
I am amazed at what K booms do for their Size, but I havent found much good info online with load charts

What is your capacity at 130' what is you tip height?

with our Liebherr 6000 LBS about 100' tip height Off the Main @130'

No dbl its not a fight at all. And mine won't make picks at 200'radius!!! I'm just talking about pound for pound and just not having to haul counterweights around on several trucks and dunnage and extra pads and extra permits and stuff. I didn't mean it like that. We have already been over most of the advantages and disadvantages of both:) I got lucky with the 175 tm. It's the only one I know of with the stabilizer/ integrated frame like that so its turned way up from the dealer over standard. It will snatch 7k picks at 100' radius and 3400 lbs at 120' radius......with no counter weights and the stabilizers only half extended straight off the back like Djm was talking about also at a 0 degree boom angle!!! Actually the new ones don't have the same stabilizer/sub frame set up......the new setup has to use extra stabilizers to make up for the flex in the super long beams??? This adds weight which seems like a step backward? Anyway my point was after looking at NH's photo and hearing all the weights INCLUDING counterweights.....that it's just so much easier to extend the outriggers out past the edge of the driveway and throw like 2-4 thin pads out and not have to worry about the truck being level, and not having to bring another truck with weights......then put the weights on......then have several feet of tailswing whipping around etc....etc :)

mike, awsume machine no doubt. when your picking 7000 at 100' radius what is your tip height? with 120' radius-tip height? you haven't answered daves question. were just trying to see differences the counterweight, blocking, tailswing, etc. make. two completely different set of plusses and minuses.

I really have to make a trip out and see your crane work, an all terrain and a k boom are completely different animals, we are happy with our choice but it is amazing what you crane will do considering all loaded up our liebherr is over 140,000lbs. That's not is travel weight but with all the extra counterweights on

After talking with Mark from Allmark and the guys from smith crane i understand the machines better, but i would agree watching a kboom in action is the next thing to understand how they work.

Yeah Dave you are welcome here anytime. Youre right it's a totally different system in some ways. I think you'll be a bit impressed but I also think your fleet is big enough that a kboom won't make or break your biz'. (my company is as small as they get......imagine being the climber and operator on every pick :) I'll warn you though almost everyone that comes out here to see one of the kbooms.....leaves here wanting to get one or ordering one immediately :) and Yup DJM like Dave said they are a different animal! Mark has some nice vids. ( I have some but theyre not edited or anything on YouTube channel mikepoor66 ) sorry for the derail......they are light on concrete :)

It's true, if you go to see Mike you'll leave wanting a kboom no doubt, and might even leave wanting to get into skating again!

Skateboarding? You can afford to skate, and do tree work? Your company must offer good benefits....:D
