    Weak dump hoist help!

For those who are interested, I took the truck to a trailer/truckbed shop today. Two guys came out and looked and said the lift was set up WAY too far forward. They are going to try moving it back at least a foot next week and seem to think that will make a substantial difference in the...

    Weak dump hoist help!

Hello all. I recently purchased a chip truck and finally got to use it today. I've had the bed up and down fifty times working on various things, but today was the first time I tried dumping with a load of chips. It didn't go well! It wouldn't even try going up until we had pulled out almost...

    12" vs 18" chipper

Hello! I know this topic has been covered a ton, but here is my situation: Up until now, I have just been hauling brush in a dump trailer and I just bought a 2000 F-450 7.3 with a homemade chip box that I am super excited to put to work! I think I got a real deal on it because of California's...

    Altec chippers

Thank you for responding, Trevor. Next question: if cost wasn't too different, which would you choose, the 2010 Altec or a 2012 Vermeer BC1000 XL? The salesman said he prefers the altec because it has a more simple design and doesn't rely on electrical components as much as the vermeer. That...

    Altec chippers

Bump Did you ever find out anything? I'm looking at a 2010 CFD1217. I've only ever used Vermeer and have no familiarity with Altec chippers. Anyone know if they are any good? I appreciate the help!

    Pole saws

I LOVE my Sherrill 22.5 ft carbon fiber telescoping saw. It has served me well for around three years. It was rebranded "Stealth" under Notch. Anyway, I went to buy another the other day just to have a backup and found that they have discontinued them. I can only imagine it is because of...

Wisdom: Share it (tree or other)

I've said this for years, but in hindsight, I think I've done a very poor job applying it. Do you have any practical tips to not let this job own you?

Day Rate and Making Use of That Time

It might not be a bad idea to have him get a couple quotes from local companies so he knows you're giving him a fair price. As far as trimming goes, I don't know that there is a right way. What do you have energy for? Trimming six trees in one day? I'd probably trim as much as I could get...

    When customers estimate tree size

I had a returning customer call with an emergency situation. He had a busted water line at a rent house and the plumber blamed his pecan tree and said it had to come out. They could reroute, but the plumber was adamant it would happen again. I think they also needed the tree out of the way...

    Hello TreeBuzz

Yes, welcome decreppo. Sorry for the derail. And, I guess my question was from ignorance. I had never heard of a debris predator(ordered one this morning), so I didn't know if there was some spectacular blower floating around too that I wasn't aware of or if you were simply referring to big...

    Hello TreeBuzz

What model blower do you recommend, Colb? And, what sets it apart from a stihl backpack?

I didn't do anything fancy. It wasn't as bad as I thought when bidding the job. I climbed the taller spar first and set a block. Then, I rigged the back trunk down because it was bigger and leaning towards the house. Next, I negative rigged the last spar down until the point where I was...

It just allows you to lift things higher, like over the bench on that deck or onto a low trailer. It reduces the lifting capacity quite a bit though. I haven't needed to use the arch since I got a mini two years ago, but I just couldn't get rid of it and knew it would come in handy someday.

Nothing too huge, but the deck and no skid access made things interesting. My groundman texted this morning that someone who was at his house two days ago tested positive for Corona virus, so he is self-quarantining and I got to rope the logs down solo.

If you have a skid I want your opinion

I love my Vermeer S900TX. I'm w/ everyone else saying go with a mini if the bulk of your work is residential. I do jobs all the time where there is no way a full size skid is going to fit... One thing I like about a mini that I don't think has been mentioned is the ease of access. It may not...

    Apples growing on orange tree?

I understand where you are coming from, treebing. I think I might have said earlier to look at Jesus and what He said/did, He is the standard. I think you should be able to look at Christians and see a visible, tangible change in their lives, but unfortunately that is not always the case...
