Your Favorite Rear Handle to Climb With

The 462 is way better than the 441 in terms of power to weight ratio The 550xp / 562xp are also excellent contenders for lightweight, high powered rear handle saws in the tree. The 562 will pull up to a 28" chain happily ... The fact that it's also super light makes it a dream saw

Concerns about using a Big Shot near power lines

You should be able to make a clean shot with the Big shot without risking too much ... With that being said, there's always the option of shooting lower into the crown and advancing your TIP to the top Also I would do it, but then again you may find safer paths than mine

    shock loading 1" Stable Braid

Square rigging, aka negative rigging. I also use a steel biner for rigging but when it's Cherry logs, 6' long by 2'-3' in diameter... Estimated to be 2200lbs by weight alone.. I would skip the carabiner personally, especially with the buildings in close proximity

    Let's talk hardhats

I totally agree. On site people guess that I'm closer to 30 based on work ethic, leadership, professionalism ... Outside of work people think I'm 18 It'll be nice when I'm 60 and still look 30

    880 mod

I've worked with modded 3120s. The sound of them hitting their rev limit makes the front of my pants tight 880s weren't especially impressive. I've loved Stihls top handles and mid range saws for years but Huskys big saws win hands down On another note, Stihl has got something coming up for...

In Need of Advice on Tricky Situation With Employer As a Young Tree Worker.

I think you'll find your present situation and your indecisiveness really funny when you look back on it in a year or two when you're working for an awesome new employer that values your skills, your work ethic and your time. It might seem like a tough decision at the time, but it sounds like...

    So.. Free Climbing?

Generally, yes. I would say quality pruning is more physically demanding However... I've had some massive removals where the mental decisions, preparations and rigging understanding are way more demanding I think if you had a green apprentice for a year, you could get them to safely do large...
