Your Favorite Rear Handle to Climb With

Interesting, the 441 is used and abused pretty good. So maybe a replacement is in order instead if I spend the cash on another saw.

do others feel the same?

The 462 is way better than the 441 in terms of power to weight ratio

The 550xp / 562xp are also excellent contenders for lightweight, high powered rear handle saws in the tree.
The 562 will pull up to a 28" chain happily ... The fact that it's also super light makes it a dream saw

I agree 346 20" is my crane saw until we hit the big wood then generally jump to 372 32". Pretty much dont use a top handle on crane work.
I’m with you on that one, 75% of our jobs are Crane removals, no top handles on my cranes at all. All my saws are modded from muffler to full blown, we start with 261 20” bar, then 441 or 372 28” bar then if needed 395 with a 36 or 42. I got rid of my 3120’s @hume1010  got my last one

562 is new to me, so far i like it. How does it do with the 28"
The 562 pulls a 28" really well in my Reds and Firs...The 562 is the best mid-sized chunking saw I have ever run....Light and angry.

If you need a little more power the 372 will throw a 28" like a mofo. The new 572 is amazing but I myself am getting fucking sick of these chipped saws (had a 550XP go down yesterday). Mutherfucker!! Give me a quiver of 3 series Husky's and I'm good.

I just don't like the idea of running saws that I can't work on....Something as simple as a saw running rough and there is very little you can do, so off to the shop it goes... Thats a 2.5 hour round trip for me....

I have recently considered giving Stihl another chance, but it doesn't appear that they offer any pro saws much above 50cc's without M-tronics or the IntelliCarb system. No thanks......
I believe the 461 is still available, and it has a real carburetor. Or at least the one we bought a couple months back still had a real carb.

From what I've witnessed I'm not exactly impressed at what Husky saws do with their Autotune nonsense either.
I dont like the m-tronics or autotune crap either, but i seem to have less trouble with the autotune. I am a die hard Stihl guy for decades but i am moving toward Husky, only problem is switching my prized Stihl hat collection over.

Yeah i am really warming up to my 562. Totally agree 3 series rip. My 372 15+ years regular wrecking never needs work. Best saw i ever owned very closely followed by my beloved 660 full wrap. 880 not so beloved.

No crane work for me. These are saws I use for side work.

I’ll have to find a husky dealer to give those a feel. Appreciating all the input thus far. Our bigger trees, where this would be used, are mostly hardwoods.

If I were buying new I'd probably get the 550. I'm still running a 353 for my in between saw. I could upgrade but I have a soft spot for old stuff that still rips.

Trained with and spent the first 4 years of my career climbing with an 026/ MS260. The boss was a big fan of those and refused to spend the money on top handles. All the crew was given was 5 or 6 026s and 2 066s.
My current collection is:
MS180 (x2)
MS192T
MS200T
024AV
026
034AV (x2)
036 Pro
MS361
MS391
MS441
Also an 029 that I keep around as a loaner for friends, brothers, and uncles.
The MS180 is really a fun and peppy little rear handle, and while I prefer a top handle, it does well in the tree.
The 391 is a dud, I’m very happy with the rest, even the “antiques “. I kinda like the old saws so long as they at least have a proper brake and some kind of antivibe. The spring antivibe on newer saws is way smoother than just the rubber buffers, but if the chain depth gauges are properly maintained the vibe isn’t really noticeable.

I wish I never sold my 353, that was a wonderful saw. Sold it to a friend and she’s still running great.

I always run skip tooth chisel chain and all my saws at least have a muffler mod maybe that makes a difference? And if I get in hard wood that’s bigger than the bar I grab a bigger saw. But probably the fact that I’m a fanatic for sharp chains helps the most. Some of the guys I know think a new chain fresh out of the box is as sharp as it will ever be and to me a new outta box chain is just barely adequate

I have 3 550 boat anchors ! My 562’s are older and run great. No more auto tunes for this guy. I have a mint 372&395 I’ll keep running forever ;)
