    Notch 3/4 block

Almost worth convincing myself I need one myself...but then I'd need to convince myself I need a larger rigging rope too :ROFLMAO:

FYI Buckingham Mfg still has the RP055 for a pretty good price on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/295788936932?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=miFv_FMTTUe&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ze-80eSjQLC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Hollow, cracked, heavy leaning maple made for a very noodly climb; glad to have a high TIP in another tree

    Today....

More island work with views. Lots of really nice big old trees here (for Maine)! Topped out at ~110ft in this white pine.

Doing some work on a lake island with old camp buildings. Bracing and cabling a codom red oak over a boathouse. The tree had a chain someone had installed between the stems about 10ft above the union, which is very hollow with included bark down to ground level…I guess it’s worked so far, haha...

    Running bowline on anchor sling

When I used to rock climb, I always preferred to tie in with a doubled bowline with Yosemite finish. Much easier to untie after loading than figure 8. My understanding of why a single bowline is never used in rock climbing is that it’s not secure for situations without continuous loading. When...

If you could only have 1 saw…

Probably can’t go wrong with any of the well known builders (they earn their reputation). Kevin (XS) has YT videos of his builds and the 7900s on there have me pretty much sold on paying for it :)

If you could only have 1 saw…

I haven't gotten too much trigger time with mine yet, but it does feel like there's a lot of untapped potential in it powerwise. I was planning on a woods porting job if I get it done. Exchanged some messages with Kevin LaVanway (huskihl) on the OPE forum, since I heard he's done a number of...

If you could only have 1 saw…

Is that a Dolmar 7900? If so any mods to it? I picked up a barely used one recently and trying to decide if I wanna she’ll out to have it ported…

If you could only have 1 pair of underwear...

Since someone brought up socks… another 5 star recommendation for Darn Tough here. When I used to fight fire, I started off wearing Smartwool and would blow through new pairs in one season; Darn Toughs would last at least three! One time I unintentionally wore a pair for nine days straight (we...

This morning there was a hint of Fall in the air, but still fairly warm during the day. Weird season with all the rain this year though.

Ocean views all day on this red maple removal. Taken out to improve solar panel exposure, but suffering from driveway compaction and not particularly healthy anyway.

Caps, conks, mushrooms, toadstools, basidiocarps, buttons, puffballs, clubs, corals, brackets, shelves, jellies, and crusts ID thread

Thanks! I’ll certainly be removing some deadwood on the tree already and should be able to get a better idea of the extent of decay. Would be good if some of the stems are salvageable, so was asking in part in case it’s something that will likely continue to spread through the rest of the tree.

Found on a couple stems of a Salix discolor, one of the stems has completely died back. Very inexperienced with fungal ID, so not sure if this is related, pathogenic, secondary... ID help? Thanks
