Guessing I'm not alone in the fact on more than one occasion over the years I've ascended a residential tree & stumbled across something not natural, well out of place & oddly surreal. Just wondering if others have had these same discoveries monkeying around in a tree?
Mine was at the 3/4...
Just had to share my little throw line tale of the week.... I connected with a tree service after relocating up to Alaska this past season... the owner, about 15 years my senior & myself, utterly & entirely different 24+ year careers in how we came to be in the tree care industry.. myself...
10-4 on all that... I've resented the industry at times, or at least my time in it and tried to walk away from it but it always lures me back in. From the never seeing the same workspace more than a few days in a row, to the admittedly pseudo ego boosting times when people watch in awe at what...
Lol, well, kind of! New gear still makes me feel like a kid at christmas but in the context of production work, it's something of a stumbling block to me.
Just wondering if I am alone in my little bit of hesitation of adding new gear & techniques to my climbing closet so to speak. I came up...
Not ignoring all the orginal points by the OP & the other comments in the thread but our industry hacks are best negated in one simple way... your absolute initial contact with a potential client.
Be it phone or walk up or referral or door knocking etc.... a very tactfully phrased but...
Wow, thanks for that solid advice! Never even crossed my mind to catch students coming out of Forestry Programs like that... my big thing when putting a crew together is the lack of ego that typically comes along with people in the biz after a few years, but I also dislike having to train...
So far as the Boreals go.. literally noticeable more support than the La Sportivas, and several other high end mountaineering I've worn over the years. In between seasons I've driven tow trucks, TONS of pavement running around etc... and I can honestly say spending up to 14 hours in them, don't...
that pic so makes me happy those big all day in the saddle trees are long in my past! Hauling lawn mowers with chains up godzilla scale beasts like that pic exhaust me just looking at them nowadays! EPIC pic!
Just thought I'd toss this out there Rico... over the past decade I've blown through many pairs of Makalu's myself and can't rave about them enough.. but last time I had to lay down the scratch for a pair I decided to pick up a pair of Boreal Maipo boots... I dare say they come in several...
I totally echo Rico above with the La Sportiva Makalu! Mountaineering boots are the way to go in my personal opinion. They offer the arch support, but unlike leather logger/work style boots, the offer a TON of cush to them as well & are still nimble/not bulky enough to toe wedge themselves...
Howdy Board!
Getting pretty far ahead of things right now but we're starting to put feelers out in an attempt to build a dynamic 2-3 man crew for work up on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska for the 2019 season. Needless to say up near the arctic the pool of new hires, lacks quality professional...
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but personally, to me, if I don't feel a tint of fear, a little peak of fight or flight with each ascent I make, I walk away from the tree. Not having at least a .01% of fear each time you head up something means your ego has overtaken your primal respect...
