    Just bought the akimbo

The green section is Tenex. The red section is the cover for a rigging rope. Inside the rigging rope cover is the bungee. The red section connects high up on my harness suspenders and the green section connects to a foot loop on my boot. I bought both the bungee and foot loop from Climbing...

    Rec climb videos

@JohnnyPro27 Do you still have the video where you were tied into a tree, but jumped from a nearby fence or building and did a flip before landing?

First climb on my multi-mode lanyard/short rope design

Yep, again not so much a comment for you but for those that are new. I use that technique of pulling the throw line through a quickie to set a canopy anchor all the time with a shortie but I always tie my anchor knot just after my rope is pulled up and over the target crotch to give it the...

    Just bought the akimbo

I use the older style Petzl Pantin and a homemade knee ascender. These items aren't life support, keep an eye out on the treebay thread and you may find a good deal on used items.

First climb on my multi-mode lanyard/short rope design

Hey Moss, do you normally send up your canopy anchors without a retrieval line? Awfully risky if you have obstacles to clear while setting your line. Not so much a comment for you but for those that may watch this and not know any better.

Been on the Monkey Beaver for a few years now. Very comfortable and high quality product.

Don't forget about your eyeballs! Safety glasses are about as effective as an N95.

Is there a name for this loop knot? Is it safe for climbing use?

X2 on the splice! A properly tied and dressed figure 8 on a bight (or follow through) does not require a stopper knot and will retain more strength than the fishermans. It's definitely a cool looking knot though.

    Home built admirals hook

It's a little heavy for day to day use but handy for working a stand of conifers. The weight actually makes it easy to flick down for a base tie if you can't get a secure position. Easy on and off with the splice and shackle so you can alternate between ropes.

    Home built admirals hook

I use one of these. The hook has some weight but it makes it great for tossing tree to tree. The shape loads the hook fairly in-line. Strong and secure. https://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/gros-crochet-pour-c%C3%A2ble-de-remorquage/A-p8686735f

    Throw line

When I switched to KMIII line I had to get used to not climbing with a splice (which is a quick way to attach a climbing line to throw line). I came up with this solution which would work with a friction saver and appropriate sized quick link...

    First responders dropping trees

Just like tree companies there are many fire departments that are run and staffed by individuals who do not conduct themselves as professionals. You're right, they should know better. Most members are farm taught, hard working and have the best intensions. Three great qualities but can make for...

    Spiral pruning?

Dr. Ed Gilman...give him a search. He's done the research on how a tree's structure resists storm damage and how to prune to encourage proper structure. He also has an excellent book on pruning.

    Wedgin' n jackin'

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding the question. The bar won't max out like a wedge, but I guess it would kick out past a certain angle which would depend on the depth of your felling bar head, depth of the backcut and location of your hinge on the stump. I really only use mine on smaller trees (10"...

    Wedgin' n jackin'

Lots of good info on here. Glad to come across this. I did a small job clearing about 30 dead ash from a lot a few weeks ago. Lots of smaller ones that would be tricky to wedge over but setting a line for each one would be slow going. We got the ol' felling bar out and would set that in after...

    Mechanical Advantage Advice

The Aztek kits are great for the rescue world but not so much for the ARB work. My 5:1 setup is two CMC double pulleys, a quick link, a prussic, two carabiners and a retired climbing line. It's probably the cheapest way to go for a good block and tackle and you probably already have some of the...
