A flat bed works but is a poor cousin to the dump body or trailer. I started with a flat bed f250 and wouldn't recommend it for long term work. You can lease/finance the right dump trailer for very reasonable prices. $7900 trailer was around 150 a month on a 5 year lease. Peanuts compared to...
Yeah a used dump trailer is a gamble fir sure. Bought mine new in 2012, some of the best money ever spent. Still works good but It's seen some heavy abuse. Cycles to failure applies to us all.
The paint on most trailers wont last 5 years of use. Nobody spends the money on those epoxy heavy duty...
Yeah the shear bar or anvil that the blades spin by is key. When it is a fresh square and adjusted correctly chipping is much more enjoyable. It gets pretty round with use. They say to change your bolts when you switch knives so the dremel gets the most out of each knife before changes.
Cut...
Good morning gents,
My 2 cents would be negotiate hard and always be willing to walk away.
No demo of it chipping no deal.
On the topic of small chippers I bought a bc700xl back in 2014. I'm a small operation and
anything it can't chip is firewood. Vermeer stopped making the 600 I think the 700...
I would get an RC-2000, as big of a block as makes sense, money wise and some 9/16 or 5/8 rigging line. I mostly just use 9/16 double braids or 14mm Sirius. Yale or Samson all make quality ropes. I've been liking the 14mm as my main rigging line, but our trees are smaller than some.
I have the Vermeer bc700"xl" it has a clutch similar to a skidoo, it engages when you rev it up.
Broke apart around 180 hours I think. Shabby design for a chipper. Works great until it breaks tho.
There may have been some operator error involved, got overheated a bit I think.

These bad boys are still going strong after a season. Cool in the summer with big vents.
Good morning Tree buzz, my name is Quill and I am a bit of a rope addict.
Climbing lines: 11mm Kernmaster mostly used with a rope wrench.
11.8mm voyager/Tangent for use with zigzag mainly.
11.7 Yale scandere, just got it in the fall, very nice smooth jacket. Just big Kernmaster basicly probably...
Hey that's fair enough I don't mean to say they all are lazy. Good guys for the most part.
It's just important to communicate exactly what kind of clearance you need. (ie 10 feet from primaries) unless you are a
utility arb.
