Small Hand fed Chipper

And here's my little Morbark. A 10"x10" infeed. A 35 HP engine, it has been rebuilt once. I've been running it since 2006. Just had it painted for the second time.20180711_112107.webp

Hydraulic feed wheel lift?
No, it has an interesting spring mechanism to allow wood to feed.
needs a good sharp push and grabs great. The dual feed roller is awesome compared to the single feed wheel. 10x better. My old bandit was two person chipper, to push and wrestle limbs in. CR70 basically brush goes in as big as you want/what it can crunch and within reason it gobbles it all up.
I impressed very pleased.

Anyone with experience with fluid coupler on a chippere?
Very interesting. Some AWD cars (including my own) use a similar coupling instead of a mechanical transfer case. I’ve heard it called a “viscous coupling”. My understanding is that the fluid viscosity changes with rotational force, i.e. gets thicker and makes the connection between components.

I wouldn’t necessarily write it off as inferior. I’ll just let someone else try it first.

Congrats on the chipper. Nice setup for many jobs.

CR70 Wallenstein ate a whole lot of Sugar Maple HAF! both dead and green.
Fluid Coupler works great. smooth feed, no hard stops or stalls or jumps or drops in engine performance. Just nice and smooth.
My guess is manufactures are not using this fluid clutch is that is expensive.Engine repairs and replacemnts can be expensive. My last engine blew up and had to replace quite a few rocker arms and push pins over the yrs.

Don’t know if this falls in small category and recent quote was $34.5k plus tax. I’m not a full time tree guy, more of a wanna be but rented a Vermeer bc100xl the other day with a 3.0L gasser and other than rpms that sounded like a nascar, it worked pretty well. Horizontal single feed wheel and took everything green or dry 10” or even bigger with no problems.
