    Rec climbing biz for customers

I am an ambassador for the Global Organization of Tree Climbers and have been involved with creating best practice guidelines for tree climbing since 2007. Each year we all get together at various locations and this year we even have two venues: OSA Center in Costa Rica (in progress) and at...

    Camp in Old Growth?

To be totally honest I climb for how it makes me feel and it makes me feel very close to nature and to God. Teaching others how to climb and share that experience is what makes me tick. I have the most respect for the skills that arborists have perfected and can only hope that I can copy what...

    Hanging a swing

I have found that a rope or web around a limb that goes around just once will have rotation when the swing travels from one way to the other. This causes wear on the limb that can easily be avoided. By all means protect the limb with some kind of sleeve even though I prefer the Dan House Rope...

cover on Dan House rope sleeve?

Good news is that the strength of the sleeve comes from the metal core and the bad news is the vinyl cover is soft so it grabs the bark well. Cheap route is to wrap it with duct tape and let that get torn up instead of expensive heat shrink. Old joke is what is wrong if you can't fix it...

    Above the Friction Hitch

So expecting questions about this rig the orange cord and the gray plastic pipe is our easy sliding friction hitch with an adjustable buckle to allow the foot loop made from the yellow webbing. It slides up like butter; grabs tight easy with almost zero set-back. Our climbers range from 8 to 80...

    Above the Friction Hitch

Years ago with I was messing around with installation of my conduit type rope sleeves I placed a 2" round wooden ball with a hole slightly larger than the rope to help the sleeve pass over the top of the limb when installing the sleeve. It didn't seem to help much but the ball did slide down the...

Brand/company Q's...Is Notch owned by Sherrill? What brands are worth/not-worth buying from?

Thanks for the unsolicited recommendation for my Rope Sleeves. It really pissed me off when Sherrill first offered cheap imitations only to find out theirs would break and the jacket would tear. Failed so often they took them off the market. Too bad for them.

    Rubber for bigshot

Latex Tubing facts Tom alerted me to this thread about latex tubing, so this is my two cents. My research on tubing properties lead me to find a spread sheet that you can enter the OD and the wall thickness to determine any size tubing’s power rating all in an effort to determine how long to...

    Throwline Hiking Stick

You guys have great modifications and look fun to use. Let me share some more info about ballistic projectiles. But our projectiles are not free flying but have to be tethered to a pilot line which adds all kinds of drag and issues. What I have found most successful is this: 1. Use the...
