WTB Bandit 75XP or a 65XP

I got a $45, 450# capacity, 12" pneumatic swivel caster to bolt on my tongue when rolling/ winching it around.
Tractor Supply Company.
If power winching/ pulling, go slow, stay 'fair'.

I want to see the video of the slaw coming out the shute. :D
Alas, these guys beat me to it... I'd say very well done, but probably better to say it's very raw...

Anyone got a good source for a new anvil for a 2012 65xp? The side I’m using is pretty beat, the other side looks used too. Also gotta find that gap tool to check knife clearance and belt tension. I’m pretty comfortable poking the belt with my finger and guesstimating the tension, but might might as well do it right.

We use Stephenson Equipment in Harrisburg, PA for all our Bandit parts and have been quite happy with them so far.

I have the official Bandit gap/tension tool, and leave it in the toolbox where it can look pretty. I’ve found setting the knives by eye to work just fine, and I use a steel ruler to check tension because the Bandit tool is bent and therefore makes it difficult to push hard enough on the belt to gauge proper tension.

I got a nice steel ruler, what measurement does it sink to at the little slot on the belt cover?

Also any idea what width that gap is between knife and anvil? I got a set of feeler gauges and a taper gauge. I think that’d be a really bad day if they were too close.

According to Bandit, on our 1590, with 100 pounds of pressure on the belt there should be not more than 1” of deflection. Check the distance on the ruler when you drop it in the slot, apply pressure, and check the measurement again, subtract the bigger number from the smaller and you will know what your deflection is.

You will need to check your manual for the numbers for your chipper though, I do not know what the pressures and deflection should be for a 65XP.

The gap is about 1/8” if you use the Bandit gauge. We go by eye, and I like the gap a little smaller - as long as I can see light between the knife edge and anvil I’m happy. The closer the knives, the fewer little sticks get through without being chipped.

1/8? That’s a huge gap on my disk it’s somewhere between a 1/32 and a 1/16, I just use two business cards. Or kiss the anvil and back it off a good hair.

It’s a huge gap on a drum too in my opinion, which is why I don’t use the guide either.

I haven't checked belt tension yet. Add it to the list... thanks! Your unit does not have the tool on it? I found mine by accident after a few weeks while looking for grease nipples.

I don't have a better source for you but, your anvil has four edges to choose from right? (Seemed like you were focused on two.)

.055 in or 1.4 mm
Be sure to rotate the disk by hand to be sure your not hitting the anvil.
When I did mine, I set the gap on one knife and when rotated the other knife hit.
Drove me nuts trying to perfect it.
Think my anvil is off or my disk it warped.
I ended up gaping the closet knife first and so be it.
Need to revisit this sometime soon.
