WesSpur 2010 Catalog

Holy shite that video was crazy! It had rachet straps holding it together...that was nuts! He was cutting it in chunks because it was so dead, and he was breaking it apart by hand! hahahah omg I cant believe I just saw that, Id only do it if I didnt have to work the rest of the year.

I was told that tree was 15% sound on the compression side. That airwalk he is working over ranges between 65 and 157 ft tall google the tahune airwalk.
I don't know if graeme is on the buzz but I know his son angus is. Those guys know their stuff!

I'm surprise you guys don't know who that is cutting the Euc. Why don't you tell him up close and personal what you think about his non-ppe.

Ask for Graeme McMahon

Jerry, I was going to say the same thing as you did, for those who don't know about Graeme.

Also for those of you who are wondering, Graeme is a TreeBuzz member, only he doesn't post as often as his son Angus

I do not believe you need a separate climbing line per logging standards, eyewear is a must, but i am pretty sure you do not need a secondary tie in for cutting in a logging scenario.

Actually in logging standards, eyewear is NOT a must, it is only a recommendation by OSHA. ANSI Z-133 standards says it is required.

If you guys really want to complain about the WesSpur catalog, you should turn to page 8 where they talk about the Yale Polydyne Rigger’s line.

You will notice that they use the WLL Safety Factor of 5:1 instead of 10:1 as is RECOMMENDED (not required) by arborist safety guidelines.

Remember, NOWHERE in the ANSI Z does it tell you that you have to use a 10:1 WLL for your rigging lines. Obviously, if you are a smart rigger, you will not only use the 10:1 WLL, you will also take into account the upwards of 50% strength loss due to any knots that you may also be useing in your rigging system.

I have checked with Yale on this before and they go by the construction/industrial industry, which follows the 5:1, SWL/WWL for rigging lines. In the future, they may post a 10:1 WLL on their arborist lines, but for now, their literature is staying with 5:1.

Having said all that, I think that WesSpur should have at least put a disclaimer note on Yale’s lines stating what the WLL is based on.

BTW, Reg Coates, whose picture appears on that page definitely knows MORE than a thing or two about rigging and he probably has already noticed this ad by Yale

Why was Graeme McMahon held up as an example of violating the ANSI standards? He's obviously not beholden to them since he isn't in the US.

Killer video, by the way. No safety glasses, but the guy's nuts are flippin' huge! Better him than me up that big dead thing.

Graeme McMahon!!!!...Shortly after I started climbing I remember watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6hEfav9ZwI&feature=related
and staring in disbelief. I thought If I could that kind of skill/ judgement/balls I'd be a decent climber!
I want to climb with those guys!!!

I could feel tension in my body just watching the video.

I saw this some time back and just couldn't believe someone would/could climb a tree so dead that you could pull chunks apart.

Although, I suppose when you consider how much more the tree weighs than the climber, and the tree is holding it's own weight, the climber's weight almost becomes insignificant, well except at the top, where there's not as much tree weight. Knowing that wouldn't help me a bit - I couldn't do that even if I had the skills, which I don't, even if it were a healthy tree.

Awesome work!!!!

I agree an Arborist catalog should be up to par, never the less gonna still put a big order with them soon...good vid, that guy is awesome....limbwalkers cool updates on the site,Chris said he was gonna be beefing it up...deiselcutter(Jimmy) when it comes to arborculture ur all over, keep up the good work bratha

I deliberately picked that photo of McMahon. His skills and accomplishments speak for themselves.

WesSpur should be on their game, but it's made into far too big an issue on these forums.

WOW!!! I just got done watching that video. I can say that is crazy! Can't wait to watch the other part of it! It took me until the end of it to realize what that airwalk was.
I am one to bite the bullet, and push it, when it comes to climbing dead trees. But that really was crazy! Call in a heli. or something.
We was talking to about safety glasses fogging up. I don't no how many times I have just had to get rid of them because of that. I was wandering if anyone had ever tried that lens fog remover? Any input on that?
