If you guys really want to complain about the WesSpur catalog, you should turn to page 8 where they talk about the Yale Polydyne Rigger’s line.
You will notice that they use the WLL Safety Factor of 5:1 instead of 10:1 as is RECOMMENDED (not required) by arborist safety guidelines.
Remember, NOWHERE in the ANSI Z does it tell you that you have to use a 10:1 WLL for your rigging lines. Obviously, if you are a smart rigger, you will not only use the 10:1 WLL, you will also take into account the upwards of 50% strength loss due to any knots that you may also be useing in your rigging system.
I have checked with Yale on this before and they go by the construction/industrial industry, which follows the 5:1, SWL/WWL for rigging lines. In the future, they may post a 10:1 WLL on their arborist lines, but for now, their literature is staying with 5:1.
Having said all that, I think that WesSpur should have at least put a disclaimer note on Yale’s lines stating what the WLL is based on.
BTW, Reg Coates, whose picture appears on that page definitely knows MORE than a thing or two about rigging and he probably has already noticed this ad by Yale
