Just curious...who uses wedge grips by Preformed Line Products for steel cable termination. How do you like them? Have any issues?

Love them. Only issue I've ever had was messing up a wrap with the 5/16" grip and bending one of the coils. You can usually brute force fix a 1/4" and smaller, but once you mess up a 5/16 its junk.

There was a redesign last year after some issues, to make installation more idiotproof. That helped me a lot.
One issue is going in at an angle, they side load unless you chisel bark on one side and/or use beveled washers like 45 degree ones.
They are technically not standard if you do not use a washer, but that will likely be fixed in the next standard; 2012?

Oh, you aren't talking about dead end grips?
I usually prefer them on static systems when I don't mind drilling through the tree. They are fast and easy to install.
Only advice is to tighten the end cap again after they are loaded.
When I went up to Richmond last year, the company that my team worked for had two systems fail. Not from pulling through but from being pushed out. The trees survived and the cable was not stripped, my theory is the caps were not tightened after being loaded.
Cobra, EHS cable and wedge grips are always on my truck.

Jeff, I am refering to the lil black hub and cone deal with the screw on cap. They are super fast to install, but I question the plastic cap. Also, the manufacturer says hand tighten to secure...I wonder how much they are effected by temperature and uv. Idk, I'm still on the fence about these babies.

Was the cable cut with a pinching style bolt cutter, a hacksaw, a cordless cutting wheel...? Was the cable taped off at the cut? Did the tape get into the wedges some how?

I fear the cable itself may be the first to go, if the branch/limb/leader is not perpendicular to the cable then there will be a bending point at the exit causing eventual metal fatigue. Same issue with RigGuy. Are there tapered spacers to account for the exit angle?
