Brendon,

Sent you a private message/email last night. Hope you got it okay!

To anyone on the boards who have business technology questions or just plain want to rant, I plan to attend New England Grows in Boston in a few weeks and happy to give away a free "ear and brain" should you like a sounding board for what you're thinking! Just shoot me... a private message or email. (I do have days where I want to say, just shoot me!

I see on your site you have a link to Bluehost. How do you like there service and is it easy to navigate and use for less experienced people?

I did my own site using wordpress and hostgator. Looking to do another for a friend but thought I'd try a different hosting service. Thx for all your advice on this thread and others.

Hey Leafguy,

I selected Bluehost since I was going to be doing Wordpress websites and Wordpress had them listed as one of the preferred hosts they would recommend. What I found was Bluehost had a ton of aids for Wordpress site development and while they don't necessarily support all aspects of Wordpress, they are knowledgeable enough to help you out with loading a new website and other related issues. I've used their support line which is based solely in the US so you are using 100% American talent and have always gotten solutions without long hold times.

I also like the cPanel dashboard they use; cPanel is a generic interface which you would have had at Hostgator as well. I've had to figure out my way around GoDaddy and 1and1 as hosting services and found them to be miserably unhelpful. Down time is minimal. Just had one outage back in August for about 4-5 hours. No one's perfect. I have lucked out in getting to know a key insider at Bluehost so I have some knowledge that Bluehost is investing in increased capacities and security.

It's the only web technology outside of Wordpress that I unequivocally endorse, and signing up for an account via my website earns me an affiliate fee. (Hint, hint!)

I am not sure what a good goal is or a minimum standard should be for website views daily/monthly.

Can you guys shed some light on this subject for me? Also, of so many views how many calls should I be looking for?

You need to start ignoring ideas and statements that have become stale wisdom. Not old wisdom, but stale wisdom.

A lot of people are still parroting the same ideas about hits, SEO, optimizing, etc., from several years back.

Probably the most important thing, is to get a general idea of how many similar services in your area have websites for the same kind of work. Then ... that tells you how saturated your niche is.

Are there 3 companies? 40 companies? Or say 200 companies? And how much population?

At some point ... and I should invent a name for it ... there's enough companies, that if even customers simply searching specifically for you online can find your site right away, then that's successful.

I used to invest a lot more time in getting my site to the top. But I've put much much less time into the site, because the time burned-up was becoming substantial. Plus, I think Google has 75% abandoned strict focus on quality content of websites.

I get about 3-5 calls per week for different SEO companies. I tell them all the same thing: you get me to the top and I'll pay you then. Otherwise, GTFO. I'm not interested.

You're smart to ignore the SEO calls. The claims that you'll get to the top and stay there are bogus. The search engine Google, which is the 800 lb gorilla in the room, is always adjusting its method for posting the most relevant pages to a search so it cannot be "gamed" very easily.

That said, Google Places with a Google Business page is advisable and it's free. It will help with placement in a competitive market.

As for a website, keep it updated and come up with interesting information that helps your potential customers trust you and help your existing customers answer their questions is your best bet.

It has been awhile since i have updated my website. i would like better function and the ability to add pics and video easily. What do you guys think? Druidcarol, sent you a pm and an email. Jeff web page
