Dear Tom,

You're really good at this game.

You also stink at this game.

Sincerely,

See, what happened is, I got so many right that I went through all my pictures. And now I am too busy to stop off and photograph interesting trees. I have been thinking about it, though.

OT, if you have anything, feel free to post it.

I thought about replying to your post with the little dude holding up the "lame" sign, but then I considered how often I check this forum, and recognized what that says about my not-so-existent social life:

Thanks for the invitation, Tom. Took the family to the arboretum today, so I'm locked and loaded. I think I've got a bag full of good ones...

The tree that's barely in the photograph on the right side (not the one you've got to guess) is a dawn redwood - maybe 90 ft or so? Awesome tree.

I've got a picture of the blooms on the tree in question should this one be a stumper.

Hint: Leaves are uniquely shaped.

Hmmm. Liriodendron, Sasafrass, and Pawlonia all came to mind at first. I suppose they are all unique shapes...

Also, I suppose that's three guesses. I'm a cheater.

Dang you Tom. You have 48 hours to post the next one...clock is ticking.

Those little individual pom-poms are clusters of flowers. It's S. albidum - I've seen it in leaf...although, the label on the tree could be wrong? I guess there could be another Sassafras species out there? This is in an arboretum, so the original plant collector could have gotten it from somewhere overseas - I'd be curious to know if this was mis-labeled. You should see it's color in the fall - dark, dark burgundy. I've never seen one this big, but then again, I'm not as old as a tree yet...

If they are clusters, then it's not mislabeled. They just look individual in the pic, which is what makes this game fun. I will try like heck to get one up, but if someone else has a good one, go right ahead.

-Tom

Let's see if you can name this tree (i.e. It's named after something, someone, a place etc.)

Just to keep the game going temporarily, since it should go quick.

Damnit, I've got an epic tree i was going to snap a shot of but didn't pull the camera out. Has a really great backstory too. Maybe ill be able to sneak it in at some point. :-)

Not Acer saccharinum.

Hope I made sense with my description, and that it is not too obscure. So for example it is not 'General Sherman' or "The Liberty Tree'
