Trees from a distance

That sure looks like Euonymous fruit in pic 2.

I guess it could be a Wahoo (E. atropurpureus) or Spindle-tree (E. europaeus). The buds are clearly clasped, though, so I am really not sure. Anyone ever see a big old one like this?

I've seen one big E. europaeus, probably about 12" dbh. It was more excurrent than that and the bark was smoother, not as deeply fissured. The client wanted it cut down because of the webworm!

The largest known wahoo (in the States) is apparently in Michigan and is 7" dbh and 32' high. Doesn't sound much like this one. Tom's seems more Eurasian? Most likely E. europaeous, or maybe E. hamiltonianus subsp. sieboldianus or E. oxyphyllus. Maybe we'll never know. Seems like most of the ID'ing involves the flowers and fruit. Will you be visiting this one again sometime Tom?

I gotta say I didn't have much hope for something Tom didn't know! He pretty much had it already anyway.

Liriodendron tulipifera

BAMM! Wow, I thought that might not have been completely obvious.

No on the power lines, just plain butchered.

That's what I get for being a smarta$$.

Here ya go...the two most distinct in the photo, i.e. with gold colored foliage and burgundy colored foliage.

I want cultivars too, damit!

Si.

My bad on the confusing post. I confuse myself most of the time.

And now that you mention both cultivars, I'm not sure which it is. I had thought 'Gold Rush' but it very well could be either. It's in a private garden in Atlanta, so I don't know.
