Trees from a distance

Guess it's gettin' cozy in Camp Ulmus! You guys got a decent guess at species? How pissed are you gonna be if it's not an Elm?

Two things, Robinia...

1.) It's not a serotina

2.) You can only post a pic once you have won a round. No mid-round posting!

oops sorry about that. I didn't know the rules and wasn't about to go back over 150 pages

I came to this party late!

I'm a TFAD junkie so I'll start guessing at yours as soon as I get bored.

Just so you guys don't come up to RI and kill me, I'm going to let you know that this one is not an Ulmus. I was really having fun while it lasted though.

This ain't fair. I'm up here in zone 1. We have a pretty small variety to chose from. You guys are so lucky with your exotic selection. I was lucky to check this thread out as a boxelder was posted. A horrible tree, but my area's idea of something special.

At one point my province was the only place in the world with a decreasing population. I was so proud. In these times a little space is the ultimate luxury. But I think I'll just watch and learn from this thead from now on. Until the Betula Paperifera comes along.

Well it was fun messin with ya! Do you have any weird zone 1 stuff that we might not recognize? Does Pinus banksiana get that far North? Relatively rare around here...

-Tom

We've got a large stand of them just south of me and they extend way farther north. Give me a white pine any day. I think the barksiana is probably the least attractive of the pines and full of mistletoe, but that gives them some dense foiliage and character.

Not a Nyssa, Holly. And depending on your picture viewing software, you should be able to zoom a bit, CnC. I use Picasa, it's a Google product.

I'm gonna be offline pretty much all day, so I'll give a hint for now:

This tree is not very common, although it is native. This specimen is the biggest I've ever seen, although ID books say it can get bigger.
