Today....

Narrowed up a stone dead Madrona.

I didn't want to go higher. Climbed lightly. Probably could have pieces it out without it breaking, but... no thanks.

Slotted into a nice spot from the ground.
Hopped a mature huckleberry, and avoided a very large hazelnut clump that i threaded with a rope and pulled way back, locking the rope off with a garda hitch, for kicks.

Well as I said before
This is why I’m scared to run on expressways
Four hundred pounds over 10k on one of our trailer but under 26k combination
So I’ve always been told under 26k combination don’t need a class A
D.O.T officer told me different today
3 weeks ago was pulled over and told me the opposite

So went and bought a single axle tilt for our mini or stumper
8k axle
8k gvw
Weighs 2500
Can haul 5500
$6100 expensive but trailers are outrageous like everything else right now
It is a surtrac so powder coated and leds

Wow, that’s no good! You should check in with a state DOT expert, the officer may have been wrong.

I’ve learned from experience that even the state DOT officers aren’t always right, we had a truck get stopped a couple months ago, written up for something very similar, and found out that we were right and the officer was wrong. It was the state officer in the DOT truck, so he should know, but clearly he didn’t.

Yeah I learned not to argue but just go to court and fight it

That officer is wrong. Only time you need a class a is when trailer is over 10,000.is your trailer registered for 10,000 and over or just under. If you were over then the officer was correct but give a working man a damn break. Geez

When I was logging, my boss told me that from his and others’ experiences, most DOT officers don’t know, and all of them interpret things differently.

The way I read the class A is that two things must be true- vehicle weight or rating (either or)>26k PLUS trailer weight or rating > 10k.

Therefore, if truck is under 26k, but trailer weight ends up over 10k, still not a combination. Now, if the truck was over 26k and the trailer, while rated at 10 or under is overloaded past 10, that would be a combination despite the rating. Not applicable to the situation, but interesting to look at the language.

My slow return to working continues. Still haven't climbed anything yet, but putting the new chip truck to use and doing some small felling. Just got a 500i the other day (current thought: it's an evolution but not a revolution, good but not perfect) and I maaayyyyyy have just ordered a T540iXP and 540iXP...
