Today....

My lanyard was a few feet short of ideal, so I had to pull this old double crotch trick out of the bag today. Been probably 6 years since I last tied a Blake's so I surprised myself getting it right on the first try and three guys on the crew didn't even know what it was. Never forget the basics because you never know when it could come in handy.

How do you like the rope? Atlantic Braids??

It's a 65 ton. It's got the most stick in their fleet, 130. We were making picks across the garden and down in the goat pen with 110' of stick out, but we had it all the way out so I could do a wee bit of tip weight reduction on a big cherry.

No big picks today, just needed the reach, something I think you know about;)

Sounds like quite a crane, and an enjoyable project too, other than the smell of the goats! Our usual is a 40 ton with 105 main. There’s another company local with a 55 ton with 155’ of main boom; it’s got a lot of reach but not much capacity that far out.

That's not even the half of it. Clients processed all the brush and firewood and had a smorgasbord of food for us. We didn't bring a chipper and we didnt even get the rakes or blower off the truck.

We either work with this 65t or that company's 30t truck mounted boom, and the company I work for has a Copma kboom with ~65' of reach

Technically the wrong thread because this happened yesterday, but as we were getting the second crane set up ready, there was a mechanical failure while the counter weights were being picked up, broke a castle bolt with ~25k on it. Appearently it's a known recall issue or something. But that outfit is top notch and they got it back on line by that evening.

Wow, we need some projects like that! No cleanup, and a crane, all at once? Can’t beat that! Especially with a big crane! Too bad about the broken bolt, it looks like quite a challenge to fix, but I’m glad to hear they were able to sort it out so quickly.

Love it! Best rope I've ever had. It'll be a sad day when it comes to retire it. I actually won it in their rope naming contest 7 years ago.

Nice Boom! What name did you come up with? I have the Rocket Line and Cherry Bomb from Atlantic Braids, they're excellent for both hitch and mechanical systems. I believe they have a factory about an hour away from me.

I came up with Nightshade for the purple primary one (the one pictured). I forget what they chose for the green primary, but I think they just call it all Gripflex-24 now....:nocausagracia:

One of our local uninsured hacks tried to put an 80' dead pine into a 40' hole. Trunk spun about 30 degrees off the lay and took out a neighborhood 3 phase along with most of the other overhead utilities. Hot primary arcing on the ground on top of a water service line melted the pipe. Other neighbor lost all appliances in the house and breaker panel melted. Not the first dance for this guy either.20200730_135128.jpg

She sure is. My little cottage I rent out now has two sheds in the back with 2’ tops between the two. A big top failed on one of the shit black locusts but fell perfectly between them. No damage at all.
