Today....

Sometimes we find a branch stub in the hinge wood…sometimes we find nail. :/
And sometimes we find chain link fence. Eight feet tall and fully grown in to the tree. Didn't know it was there until we hit it. In six places on the trunk... We finally cut in from both sides until we hit steel, and yanked as hard as we could with a loader until it finally broke. That's when we figured out that it was chain-link fence inside the tree. We didn't even know what it was. I wish I had a picture of that one.

I still can't put a reason to it. Bored kid with a landscape nail and sledge: "Go outside and play" is my current guess.?
I have a Dogwood in my front yard with that problem right now. Kid of the family who rented my house while I was out of the area the other year drove at least 20 nails into the base of my poor Dogwood tree.

Now THAT can really ruin your day. “What, did you think this was a phone pole in the city for all the local bands to post flyers on?”

It's been a beautiful day in the south part of the Sound.

Bid a big, full rig-down/ no crane access maple over landscaping. Water front.

Pruned an orchard. Scoped some hazard trees to fell for them. Water front.

Bid some building home-clearance and safety pruning on a grove of trees, plus safety pruning/ crown cleaning (2 ) 125' cedars. Not holding my breath on this one... working class family with 3 kids. First home purchase from someone with Alzheimer's (not kept up in a bunch of ways that they've been working through, then a wind storm caught their attention).

Yes, for sure. This is the same kid that smashed the fuel gauges on a chipper at my shop, pulled every pin and clip out he could get his hands on, and threw rocks at my neighbors cars and pets. Apparently he is known to have behavioral issues, and it seems that maybe his parents were not as good as they could have been at monitoring him.

Orcas? Makes me homesick…hopefully this summer.

Looking over towards San Juan Island.

Foggy bucket work today. Actually haven't used my bucket in a while, but did three firs from one position, in like 3 hours. So much more enjoyable to use than a lift which was the last 'elevated platform' I worked with.... fast, complex compound movements, one-hand control, etc etc. Really reminds me why I'd love to get a short-wheelbase under-cdl elevator bucket... even though a tracked lift would get so many more places for my work.

Canopy cleaning this tall fir. Got to 100-110' today and down in 3 hours of climbing. Wraptor up tomorrow to go another 50' or so. I'll come into the dead madrona tops from above to prune them. One dead trunk to bring down from the far side of the tree house through the roof to below floor level.

RC grapple tomorrow...V hang off another big fir... the indented one (from a swing 2x6).

Some orchard work for 2 hours after my ground worker left at 3p.20260209_151302.webp20260209_152044.webp20260209_164915.webp20260209_164919.webp20260209_152720.webp

120' PSP took a handful of BigShot attempts. I was away from the collar with lots of backups and a Yates Screamer in my base-tie. I Wraptored up after bounce-testing and pruned of the conflicting branch that fought movement back toward the collar with ground manipulation of the rope.

Tuesday's 125' pull down. I used a leather cambium saver. Alternatively, I might get a new ring and ring for knot blocking... long pulls can take a lot of force.
