Oh lordy. That can ruin your day. Looks like it was finally swallowed up about 10 to 15 years ago but a spike like that looks a lot older than that.View attachment 100957View attachment 100958Sometimes you hit it a few times...View attachment 100959
And sometimes we find chain link fence. Eight feet tall and fully grown in to the tree. Didn't know it was there until we hit it. In six places on the trunk... We finally cut in from both sides until we hit steel, and yanked as hard as we could with a loader until it finally broke. That's when we figured out that it was chain-link fence inside the tree. We didn't even know what it was. I wish I had a picture of that one.Sometimes we find a branch stub in the hinge wood…sometimes we find nail. :/
I have a Dogwood in my front yard with that problem right now. Kid of the family who rented my house while I was out of the area the other year drove at least 20 nails into the base of my poor Dogwood tree.I still can't put a reason to it. Bored kid with a landscape nail and sledge: "Go outside and play" is my current guess.?
Now THAT can really ruin your day. “What, did you think this was a phone pole in the city for all the local bands to post flyers on?”I have a Dogwood in my front yard with that problem right now. Yes, for sure. This is the same kid that smashed the fuel gauges on a chipper at my shop, pulled every pin and clip out he could get his hands on, and threw rocks at my neighbors cars and pets. Apparently he is known to have behavioral issues, and it seems that maybe his parents were not as good as they could have been at monitoring him.Now THAT can really ruin your day. “What, did you think this was a phone pole in the city for all the local bands to post flyers on?”
Orcas? Makes me homesick…hopefully this summer. Some nice views today, and a nice nail while low-cutting a different stump. I mean, cutting it the LONG way? Come on...
