Throw weight thoughts

I've always used a 12oz throw weight for setting a line. Been pretty good at it but could never get above 50'. Thought, surely I could throw a 8oz higher. Wrong, still 50' limit, if that!

Recently, I've been reading about a few guys making 70' with a 16oz bag. So, I tried it today and sure enough, up over 70'.
YES!!!

Of course, I've got to dial-in the accuracy bit all over again.
But, hey ... 70'!!!

Anyone had a similar experience or got an explanation

I'm thinking it might have something to do with 'impedance-matching' or 'energy-transfer-rate' ... whatever. I remember studying that one semester. It might be that I can tranfer more energy to a 16oz at my top swing rate than I can transfer to a 12oz bag.

I've got a 20oz bag, too ... might hurt myself with that one, LOL

I throw with the 16oz's all the time. Its all I use and I can hit 80+ feet with the cradle throw.
I like the heavier bag because it runs better than the light ones

Using a 12oz I can do about 60' with acceptable every day accuracy but I've hit 80' before. I'm going to switch to 14oz next time I buy some throwbags just to get them to come down from pines easier.

You didn't mention anything about what kind of or what diameter throwline you're using. With 1.75mm ZingIt I can throw an 8oz higher than anything else, with 2.2mm the 10oz can go higher than the 8 oz with 2.2mm (of course).

I think with a heavier bag it's easier to sync up your swing with the best release point in the arc. A lighter bag is a little tougher to feel and transfer the weight into the throw at the moment of release, I still think a lighter bag will go higher if it's matched with the optimal throwline for the weight.

Using a slinghot I can always go higher with an 8oz over anything else.

I throw with a 10 oz all the time and have a 14 or 16 oz on the other end to help with isolation. Where I live we really don't have trees at the 80 foot mark

I throw with a 10 oz. on 1.75mm zing it.
Can hit about 60-90 on good days. But with thick barked trees with a 10 oz. alot of times has troubled returning to the ground.
A 12 0z on the opposite side of line. can't throw as accurate but seems to come down with ease on the same thick barked trees

i cant throw anymore,, the bigshot makes it way too fast and easy,, i cant even throw 30' without it, but will hit 70 first time every time..with a 16 and zing it 1.75,, god bless those cubes,,, i use to be that ashole with the stick and the line wraped around it,, but like throwing i thought there must be a easier way?

I cradle throw a 16 oz, never need to go much higher than 60'... We wanted something a little smaller like 12 or 14, but the only thing stocked locally was 16oz. I do like the feel of the 16 though after using it for a bit, you can really time the swing and shot well with that much weight.

I'm 12oz on 1.75mm zing-it as well, going to try all-gears fling it here soon, havent unspooled it and put it in my cube yet. Regularly consistant to 50-60', can go to 90' with a cradle throw with irregular accuracy.

I go with 10oz and 1.75 zing-it. I am most accurate with that. But in a heavily wooded tree I throw up a 12er at a lower branch and work it from there.

I use the transmission from my truck to throw with.

Then when I hit my spot I quickly reinstall my transmission then head up the tree

Not before hanging a ton of sheet rock though around a new engine I'm building, while being tattooed and drinking a lager.

(I throw a 10oz bag until I get frustrated then have the human crane do it one shot kill while I sip my latte)

I use a 14 oz in hardwoods and a 16 oz on pines with dynaglide. I cant even imagine throwing a lighter bag. Not enough there to get the right feel for me, and hard as heck to run back down.
