Does anyone advertise on Facebook?

I post on my social media business pages regularly, but it’s been a while since I’ve actually ran any serious advertising campaigns. In the past when I have they did have a pretty good return and for a lower cost. I have got some good leads from there. That was back around 2019 - 2021 though.

This year I’ve been revising my marketing strategy and it’s got me thinking about FB ads, but the idea of advertising on FB gives me a lot to anxiety because of the way some people are on social media nowadays. Like they’ll go out of their way to turn something innocent and positive into something negative. And it’s not that I care so much about what a random stranger on the internet thinks, but the anticipation of possibly having someone make a comment like that and then me having to deal with it is where I get anxious.

My experience in the past has mostly been positive. Maybe the odd comment or emoji reaction here and there but, nothing real bad. And you can always just delete a comment and block someone.

So I was just curious if anyone is actively using FB ads and how do you tune out any possible negativity?

In a similar situation.
I always steered clear of FB cos the quality of enquiry is often poor, but needs must lately.
Got a mate who doesn’t advertise on FB per se, but just puts up a few pictures of a job, a bit of an explanation, then a short line ‘if you need a quote etc…’

Not really whoring himself, kind of subtle, might copy.

We post on Facebook 5 days a week on a business page and receive a lot of business from there and it’s absolutely free! We do run ads once a month when things slow down.

Great way of advertising and it’s free and your customers that follow you comment on our behalf and I believe it’s some of the best advertising!

Just like any advertising it gets me to a face to face conversation with potential customers and lets me work my magic and sell the job.

I try to stay consistent posting regularly across social media every week as well… Facebook, Instagram, Google, Nextdoor. Combination of jobs completed, tips for homeowners, etc. I have heard business pages on Facebook don’t seem to get the organic reach they used to without paying for ads, but whether that’s true or not I don’t know.

I guess where I was going with my original post wasn’t using Facebook itself, but when running actual Facebook ads you’re putting your content in front of more people most of who aren’t actually looking for your services. And while that might be beneficial somewhat for creating business, I feel like that’s also where the potential for the typical social media BS can occur because some people have an opinion about everything, and you can’t turn off comments on ads.

On the other hand, maybe there’s something to be said about tuning out trolls and negativity and not letting it get to you, etc.

I think certain platforms get a rep for the quality of leads but probably you’ll find a mix of those searching for just anyone to do it for the cheapest price and those willing to pay a professional with most platforms at one point or another. But yeah, some platforms might have a higher quality lead count than others.

I haven’t in a while, but early on when I was getting started I advertised on Craigslist a bit, which I’m sure has somewhat of a poor rep compared to other forms of marketing, but I actually had some quality leads from there. Some of which turned into referrals, callbacks, etc.

There will virtually always be an idiot talking trash.
There certainly will be! I am of the opinion that to be a business owner, one must have a rather thick skin. Get used to being told no, get used to saying no, or telling people what they need to hear rather than what they want to hear. And just ignore all of the nonsense, focus on the positives instead.
