The Body Language of Tree Workers

So Laz,
I was still thinking on the subject, even though the thread kinda died, and I was wondering, what type of set up you use for assending? It seams that you are VERY intune to keeping your body working for you, and I would like to stay that way as well. Also, while we are at it, anything in perticular you do while working as well that might be helpful??
Just Curious.

Thats a complex question and I just lost my reply Fast!

I'll get round to a summary soon.

I have a very versatile system that centers on a few fundamental items.

I will not use the footlock because as Paolo and Davina have said before it can ruin your proprioception (physical symmetry).

I use the SRT for ascending, utilizing a Kong ascender and the Pantin foot ascender. This for me works very well, but I still wonder about only being able to use the Pantin on the right leg, which could still lead to an uneven loading on your leg.

You're right about the uneven loading potential Chris.

I use a Frog walker system for ascent - my left foot attaches to a handled ascender and my right foot on the Pantin. This is very efficient.

I work of DdRT usually, and that is where the one legged ascent is used - not normally enough to be noticeable. I hope to get round to making a strap for the left foot that I can just clip on the hole in the Pantin for more even effort on long ascents on DdRT.

As it is, if my right leg seems to be working more, I'll only Frog up with the left leg on SRT for a while, or switch the pantin to the left foot.

I have had success using the Eddy for limb walks - it seems perfect. Then just RAD between branches.

Depends on the Tree what I use. Sometimes all techniques.

Paolo, I like the sounds of your SRT system. The only type of tree frog system that I've seen is the SherrillTree's TREE FROG Climbing System.

I will need to experiment with my system to better utilize my left leg as well.

Maybe I can bring some of my gear to the TCIA Expo and get some help from you guys (and gals)?

Tree work in general is hard on the body and could be considered ergonomically incorrect. These srt systems like the frogwalker are fairly similar to traditional footlocking, just less strenous. So in that sense they could prolong a career in trees. But I think some people are making footlocking out to be worse than it really is. It can be a great cardiovascular workout, and build strong stomach and arm muscles. But as with anything when done excessively or with poor form footlocking can lead to poor health

We disagree.
