step cut

especially through all that nice healthy-looking wood.

That rope pulling was painful.

I've played with that in the woods, it's great when it works. No use in urban felling though.

I'd hate for Daniel to stop making videos, but I wish they were useful. If there were no comments they might improve. Two thumbs up for cinematic quality and narration but no comment on the notch.

Okay. I'll say something nice.

I liked how close you chose to fall that spar to the lamp post. And when the spar hit the ground it sayed put

I don't know what stump grinder you have, but I'm guessing you have a larger unit. Would it really save you much time? I'm sure that cut would save time for a smaller grinder. --Just asking. Not bust'n your ballz.

I don't know how many times you have done this technique. It seems like you haven't done that one much, since you didn't seem to know how it was going to perform. Hence, the need to plunge vertically into the spar to free up some wood. (Because it wasn't going as you thought).

So, for the sake of presenting a techique to a bunch of your colleagues, you may want to perfect your technique and capture it without fart'n around with your cuts. It should look flawless.

Was this the first time you tried this?

--Again, just aking. Not bust'n.

Jack at hotsaws101 has some GREAT vids. He's a forth generation tree faller up in north. Obviously some different situations than what we find ourselves in, but some excellent ideas. I have a youtube folder filled with mostly his vids. And, from what I understand, he's a real nice guy as well, and a good Dad.

Not trying to be abrasive, but as mentioned above, it seems like a simple notch and drop with the pull line and another quick flush cut would blow that complicated sh!tshow away in terms of time and reliability... I understand the need for more 'scoutmaster' cuts in certain situations, but i like to... keep it simple.
