So this is 2 trees the same age

Just for bragging rights, this is the before view shot (but after working the previously topped cedars). The photo is the thickest part. All the cedars had multiple tops..

whats the after view?
Ha! This area was sooo thick it was a wall of green. From other areas on the deck there are windows, via maple coppice. On a nice day cascade range, a bay going out to a point on the far side of the water. Can’t you see it though all the grey? It’s hard to do a bid and have the client say there is Mountain just on the other side of that tree and I want to see it, on a grey foggy day. Part of the reason I do view work hourly.

Yes it can be hard to create a vista through cedars. Those particular specimens are at the age where you have a few options.
1 is topping, and I would rather cut them down than top them. I won't top perfectly healthy conifers.
2 thinning, which you have done a commendable job of.
3 spacing with thinning, which would be an option the client may not care for? But I would have pushed for in this instance.

One thing to consider with growth size of leaves is the environment the tree is in. The sister tree only sees Eastern sun for 3-4 hours a day and the rest of the time it is in the shade.

Then the leaf would be bigger, thinner, and less waxy. Got it on be cedars. Long term they will have to both go. But keeping them around for as long as we can for the bluff stability. Here is a shot of looking up. The bare spot is just below where we were working today. It’s a easy enough scramble down off rope, but any real work should be on rope
Long term 7-10 year management plan has replacement trees and gradual coppice to allow for root growth/replacement light shade, and more. It’s actuall pretty cool all three neighbors are going in on it together as they feel it’s a communal consern (balance of view and root slope sablity, all within the critical shoreline habitat)908FC9B2-AA24-498E-AC30-9A82D32CBA3B.webp
