Show off them splices

Maybe you could consider keeping it simple.....

If you saw how my system functions you would realize that hand ascender not only wouldnt work but is way too bulky. Obviously there are a ton of different systems where a traditional jumar and fixed foot loop are all you need but by using a smaller ascender and a hand tether I am able to climb hand over hand without having to pull down at all with my arms, using my legs only to propel me.

It is fast, easy on easy off the rope, and stows compactly. Here is Porkbricks system, mine is very similar except I use my lanyard to tend my HH, not a clip connected into the ascender system:

Also I really like the tightness of the clip in footloop. If I was someone buying the gear it might be different, but since I make it myself and enjoy the process, 'simple' isnt necessarily my goal

It wasnt the hand ascender i was really showing, its the kevlar footloop. :)

bury some elastice through the footloop so it cinchs down on you boot- that big loop would drive me insane..

Its that size so you engage/disengage fast, kevlar is different to all other ropes, its like silk on your boot.

But I can make them whoopieevable :)

Mine is a quick engage/disengage as well but a good bit smaller. I made my original tether in whoopie format but realised I never adjusted it. Having the loop large enough to step out of and small enough not to fall off is key.

So, by making the footloop a tight eye and eye you can still slip it over the boot but when you are in the tree you can simply lean down and unclip one end, the footloop simply slides off.

It also makes it stow much more neatly since the it hangs flat and not in a loop.

I would be interested to know how you weaved it...

4 three strand bundles? What kind of weave?

Good work.. mine came out a bit loose ( the weave not the splice)

Believe it or knot, I used to be a hairdresser 25yrs ago.

So a plait is a simple thing to do, all I did on my first was bundle 2x6, in this one I did all 12 as a fishtail braid.

The trick is tension it as you go, making sure the first few are tight, when get a few rungs down you can just pull the ends to tension them up.

At the end just keep tweaking the braid till its tight.
