Show off them splices

When i did mine I didn't think that it was any harder than tachyon. Just different. A lot of work for a lanyard though

New splicer here, just curious... So when splicing 16 strand like Samson ArborMaster, when you make the eye splice you are actually hanging off the sheath and not the core + sheath like with most of the 24 strand climbing lines? Thanks.

Core strands are there to keep 16 strand ropes round. When splicing 16 strand some core strands are removed to make room for the bury. There are no core strands in the eye of a 16 strand splice, this has relatively little effect on the strength of the splice/rope.

100% of the strength in 16 strand rope is in the cover, so it's not necessary to have any core strands in the eye. In 24 strand ropes the strength is shared 50/50 between the cover and the core, so you need both.

Thanks guys. Tried splicing some 24 strand Velocity I had as a lanyard, and let's just say my lanyard is about 3' shorter now. I think I need a wire fid or a Toss Wand to do the trick, the fid wasn't quite cutting it.

No need to stitch with the Brummel. What did you guys use for fid/wires? They are so damn small. I made a wire fid out of a paper clip, it works, lol.

I used a needle, just str8 bury w no stitches,no problem. I will try the paper clip, how did u attach to it? Like 1.8 zing is what have, slippery stuff

I used a piece of bailing wire/tie wire for a fid. It pinched well enough to get the required tug.
