Used cougar blue and easy peasy blaze

I just put together a couple of bandit splices myself :) It was a tailgate affair with found tools (tie wire for fid). No lock stitching yet, as I didn't have any with me. I'll throw up pics in the AM. Loving being able to easily splice my own.

I just tried to splice fly. Not sure if it turned out. Has anyone else tried this. Any pointers would be great.

My first and only (so far) splice was fly. It looked similar to your's...one side of the crossover tight and one side not quite there. Overall, your's looks better than mine did. I had a couple of bumps you don't have from not keeping the strands completely straight and smooth in the bury. I bounced on it with all my weight and climbed on it a few times and it didn't change at all, but I was never comfortable with it.

I have read that fly is a difficult rope to splice.

Earlier this week I cut it off and replaced it with this....

it was way harder than double braid. When you did your bounce testing did you stitch it at all?

I got a speedy stitcher because I wanted to learn to do what you just did with that splice it looks good. if you don't mind explaining how did you go about doing that?

Apparently I did some bouncing before whipping....http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/threads/new-england-fly-splicing-instructions.28316/#post-395009 . That's the "good side" in my photo of the splice. The other side has a bit of the core strands showing as in your first photo and a couple of lumps don't show.

For the stitched eye, see this thread...http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/threads/documenting-my-hand-sewn-eye-process.24769/

I give a few details in post 57. Please follow moss and oceans advice in that thread. This is only my second hand stitched eye and I'm just starting to learn.

One piece of cordage? Oceans loop under oceans loop bury?
I don't know what else to call that fancy little turn around the ring
Yep, that's essentially it. It was a lot of trial and error when I first did these, but now I have some measurements that I find work best. Will work on putting them up tomorrow.

Finally back to work next week, so these new slings will be put through their paces.
