September slump

I am a coffee slugging warlock. I haven't used any illegals for over 30 years. I don't even use prescribed medications for unprescribed uses. I'm just plain old tired. I haven't really ever recovered from the loss of sleep and the added pressure of being a widowed father of a young child. The sleep deprivation has been significant. I can't wait until he sleeps till noon and eats me out of house and home. I also work two jobs. My fire department gig......My engine runs between 10 and 16 calls usually in a 24 hour shift. The people in my area seem to have the keen ability to sense when I hit REM sleep and then they call 911. I usually have at least 3 calls after midnight then go do tree work. I try to nap as much as I can at the station but getting up out of a deep sleep once and hour is tough. I don't do tree work on the weekends if I'm not at the station so that helps. What kills my weekend is all the stuff I can't get done during the week and a kid who has chosen to try every sport there is. My relaxation is hunting and being in the woods and I rarely have the ability to do that. Before my wife died I used to spent 6 to 8 weeks in Wyoming every fall, living in the mountains and working for a hunting outfitter. Those 8 day stretches in a tent in the middle of nowhere really made a huge difference in my body and my mind. Obviously those days are over.

You're the man.

Seems like the world is kind of nuts in early September and I have wondered if it is related to people's schedules adjusted for kids going back to school/college. Change of routine stuff. Traffic in the past 2 weeks in New England coast has been bananas (I know, how can I tell? Massachusetts and Rhode Island drivers are always a breed apart). Remember driving around in southern Norway many years ago and there was a buttload of lemmings on the run all over the roads. You could say the back roads and byways of Norway are literally fur-lined from all the squashed rodents that mindlessly race all over in early September.

Or sudden circadian rhythm with shortening days, low light... Encountering a lot of droopy people who have less physically challenging jobs than y'all.

Be safe!

When was the last time you had your esophagus checked, & have you ever had a sleep study performed?

My Esophagus was too small, and was stretched 2 weeks ago: I can breathe better than I ever have. I didn't even know I couldn't breathe good: I felt fine.

Dad has a cpap machine now, and swears by it: that's where the sleep study comes in.

Don't put either off: go do them now.

I cannot begin to imagine the stress & strain of being both mom & dad: my hat is off to you.

Ok, I gotta ask.....How does one get their esophagus stretched? I mean, I've seen some videos......there's too many jokes there, but I want to know.....seriously.

Yes,
I opened myself up for potential shit, but in hopes that those in question would get checked out before it's too late.

There was 3 times in the spring I got choked while drinking water, and I did not think I was going to breathe again.

As soon as I could, I made an appointment to get checked out, and based on my family history, the doctor recommended the above procedure.

I'm glad he did.

Not gonna give you poo(If I was I already would have) Kudos to you for sharing.........With that stretched ass esophagus of yours! :')

TMI.

Bad esophagus structure runs in my mother's family. I don't wanna know.

Have done a sleep study (after someone complained about my snoring) but it was inconclusive and had no snoring during the test, and the whole experience was terribly unpleasant. It did show that I tend to go into the best restorative sleep phase at dawn which is probably why I can't get out of my own way in the morning.

I still think that the changeover of seasons and schedules in September makes things a bit worse.
