OK, so after fiddling around with the SCAM some more I have some suggestions. I love it, it is super cool and I plan on using it whenever the need arises but its system configuration is load-dependent. What that means is, as long as there is an equal load on the system it is bomber. Unload it at a workstation and jiggle it around some and it can change. I could not get it to fail but experience has taught me that when things like this change, failure becomes possible and because a failure with this much rope in the system has the potential to be catastrophic, I will not use it in those situations. If you foresee the need to significantly unload the SCAM, I would suggest using something that can't change when doing so.

Because it is a wrap based knot that is not self cinching after its dressed, it is susceptible to unraveling in extreme cases. For instance I would not use this system if I was planning to climb above it on my lanyard, this would be a poor choice for negative rigging fall arrest. There are probably other cases where this would not be appropriate. Good thing to point out.

@FreeFallin SCAM is looking really good and I like the usage guidance and testing involed with your own work and now in sharing this. I've just packed up to move, but I'll be having a go with this when I next have a chance. I've been using Dan Curtis' ring redirect and it works really well. Another option for 3:1 and redirect with Scam is great for the toolbox.

Btw, Part 2 has a classic one liner without sub title at 1:44... Starts with 'expensive equipment from....' . Your humour is top notch! ;)

Would it be significantly more secure if the carabiner is initially clipped "twice", before twisting up and around, back down and through? Seems like (from my airchair) with some flicking, the carabiner will still come back to you.

I wanted to test this before I responded so I threw it on a rope this morning. It is more secure, but no longer retrievable. The carabiner will not slide down after release.
I have tested the knot as is, everyway I can think of and it has not come close to failing. The closest I have seen is if I tie it to a workbench, invert it, slack the line completely, and start flipping the slack rope all over by hand. Even then it didn't fail, the carabiner did side load once, but then it just reoriented with the other side up after a couple more shakes. Keep in mind that even catastrophic failure of the knot itself would result in your carabiner slowly creeping back to you at worst.

Has anyone else had a chance to work this SCAM yet? Retrieves beautifully and try as I might, I can't get it to misbehave.

I tried being a scam artist today...it worked! Well!
If you leave the bight a little long that the crab sits into, it pops right out. Very slick Fallin. Props for one of the smoothest easiest redirects I've had the pleasure of stealing.
I'm going to try clipping the rope above and below the device next time instead of pulling a bight thru. I'm not attached to the MA and interested in more distance to the last chance to retrieve.
Make sense?

Ever had issues with the carabineer jamming in the bight on retrieve with the redirect? I'm always leery of hardware passing through rope loops

It did stick once on me because I cinched it tight around the branch, and when I got to the ground and pulled the bight free, it pinned the carabiner against the branch, but it came loose with a couple of jiggles on the tail.

Ha, scam artist, now I'm stealing that one!

Ya, I can see that, if you get some other configuration to work be sure to share it back, I am interested to see how this thing evolves. So far a lot of good feedback everyplace I've shared it.
